I have a 2003 Jeep Wrangler Sport, The main output shaft from the back of the transmission that goes to the rear drive shaft snapped in two pieces. I have seen them for sale as replacement parts for only up to 2002. Will the 2002 part work on my 2003? please email me bitesizehooker@gmail.com
Hey .. I have 2003 Wrangler and had the EXACT same problem. The fix: replace the traction bar. The part was about 125.00 and the labor was about 125.00 but the death wobble has been gone for the last 30K miles. My Jeep has 102K miles in it with 30 inch Goodyears and rides perfect at all speeds. I did all of the same things you did ... rotate tires, rebalance, ... Read More
Upgrading the speakers shouldn't be a problem. I personally love Kicker speakers due to their construction and frequency responses. I have Kicker 6x9's in my TJ and they've been putting out the sound since 2003. :) My fronts are being replaced with Kickers as well. -Paul
I have a 2003 Wrangler with a 4.0. On cooler days the Jeep runs great as the day heats up it starts to run rough at idle. The lack of power is amazing......................That said, getting someone to check the codes -- can that be done at any auto store or do I have to take it in to a mechanic The only way it could be worse is if it was an auto. Auto + a/c + 4cyl = the ultimate on-road slug. ;) You can get it checked for codes at AutoZone for free.
The lack of power is amazing. I was lured by the mileage on an 03 (17,000 when I bought in late 06). That said, getting someone to check the codes -- can that be done at any auto store or do I have to take it in to a mechanic. I usually do most work myself but I've never had to have codes checked.
Symptoms sound like my TPS issue I had a while back... But the SE's never had power. A/C sucks when it blows. :) Sucks any power you may have had as it blows the cold air... -Paul
The 4cyl 2.4, although better than the earlier 2.5, really doesn't have much power to spare at the best of times and the a/c imposes a significant load when engaged. As with most vehicles, the idle speed is supposed to increase when the a/c is turned on in order to cope with that load. However your problem isn't the a/c, it's the engine, as indicated by the fact it was running ... Read More
Hi there, I drive a 2003 Wrangler SE (standard trans) with about 40,000 miles on it. Since I bought the car, I noticed it doesn't really like the AC running. Are there any modifications that can be done to an older jeep wrangler (2003 to 2006) models that would increase towing to 5,000#? Your grvw is the total of all that you can carry in your jeep plus what you are towing. Take your Jeep to a truck scale and weigh it. I just weighed my 2003 YJ and found out it weighs only 2240lbs. that is totally unladen. I will be towing it on a 5000lb tow bar and proper bracket. Consider, overall, the Wrangler is a much simpler Jeep than the GC, or even the Liberty, esp with electronics. My TJ was a first year of production. Just tell them that you're getting literally half the expected mpg. With as poor a figure as you're getting it should be fairly easy to find the problem. It's probably running too rich a fuel mixture, which can be caused by anything from a clogged air filter to a faulty sensor. However, it could also be something mechanical, such as a binding brake.
That's just it, I don't have the big tires on it, although I wish that I did. I don't romp on it either, just generally good driving and mostly in town with the windows down and no a/c going either. What should I ask for when I call the shop and tell them I am having a problem with. I have this thing still under warranty.

You should get at least double that, unless you've got big wheels and the gearing hasn't been corrected.
Jeeps don't get good gas mileage, though yours does sound lower than normal. I can get as much as 18-20 mpg with all highway and more downhill than uphill. In town I get about 14. Off road in 4WD will lower that even more. Add any wind or over 70 mph driving and my figures go down several mpg.

Then a couple weeks later (aug2) i noticed that there was an additional 500 bucks rebate on them, so ... Read More
Hi All. Im planning on buying a new Wrangler (Hopefully a '04) within the next week or two, and I was just wondering if anyone has got word yet on what the new August incentives will be. Are August incentives traditionally better than July, or should I get a '03 with 2.9 APR while I have the chance?? Is there anything else I should know before purchasing my first Jeep (MUST ... Has anyone modify the seats in the 2003 wrangler to the same height as the 2002 and older. Really enjoyed the height of the 02 and older jeeps seats.
Your Wrangler configuration sounds like what I ended up buying in January. I didn't want ABS because of off-roading and I've had strange experiences w/ABS and rough roads in other vehicles (like the feeling of no brakes after going over uneven pavement as you're coming down a hill towards stopped traffic, for example). My Sport is black and it's beautiful when clean but I would have been just as happy with ... Read More
Hello all. Just got out of college and I'm leaning towards buying a Wrangler. You all seem like experts. I'll tell you what I want and maybe I could get some recommendations. I'd like to buy new, 2003, black with the 4.0 six. Want the dual tops cuz I live in MN, and I'm sure the hardtop's much better in the winter. Is the Sport the best model to go for ... Read More
Trans (mac24) - my overall warranty expectations from dealers are in line with your comments, but I do feel that Chrysler could be held accountable to a higher standard in this case. In my 42 days of owning and driving of this Jeep, I have suffered with the transmission grinding problem for 24 of those days. The dealer was notified of the problem when it began on day 18. It has ... Read More
I appreciate the input on the child seats issure for the back seat of a Wrangler. Several people have suggested the use of the airbag cut-off switch. I talked to the local dealer and he informed me that the new 2003 year models don't have this option. He said that only the SE model, without the rear seat, has this option. He said his dealership would not entertain installing a switch ... Read More
Welcome! Glad you joined us! We had a guy in here called 2001wrangler one time. Are you related? :) Hey, Kev, you have been awful quiet lately! Can't you stay out of that new Jeep long enough to post and tell us all about it? Geez! So, you got Edmunds to change your username, huh? Good move. You would have spent half your time explaining to people why your name was ... Read More
Hi, guys! I'm a big fan of Jeeps, but what's the deal with quality? JD Power ratings are very low for 2003 Wrangler (just on par with Kia, ouch!), does DC care at all, or they think they've got no competition and people would buy despite the lack of quality?
Jeep Buds, today is Cinco de Mayo, and that means Kevin's (2001Wrangler's) Jeep is being born today! Yeeeeeehawwwww!!!! Uh oh, Kev, what about that username???? Don't think that's legal to call yourself 2001wrangler when you are driving a 2003 Wrangler. IRS might think you're evading taxes or something. :) Congrats, Kev!!! Tom Have you hugged your Jeep today?
Finally got a wrangler!! Its a 2003 Sport with flame red exterior and the black interior, dual tops, a/c, canyon wheels, and cd player. Picked it up at NW Jeep, thanks to Gred Lund! Amazing car, the car is ten times better than i ever thought it could be!
My mom, being 65 years old of all things, is buying her first Jeep Wrangler! She would like to order the 4 cylinder because of the price difference, but people have been telling her to go with the 6 because of the lower noise level. Unfortunately we can't find a single 4 to test drive anywhere. She will only be using the Jeep to putt around town in and I was ... Read More

Hello all, I am new to the Wrangler board. Just purchased a 2003 Sahara about 2 weeks ago. I was prompted to reply because of the post about extended warranties. Just wanted to recommend www.eservicecontracts.com. They sell the DC factory extended warranty online. They are a DC dealer and can sell the mfg extended no matter where you bought your Jeep. I got the 5yr/70k upgrade for only $945 with no ... Read More
