Re: Opinion - 1999 Jeep Wrangler Sahara Package [mac24]
Written by: utahjeep on Apr 29, 2005 9:45:53 AM
Thanks for that information. The seller stated that there was a complete radiator flush performed at the same time as when the cooler was installed. It was installed after the original transmission went out. The dealer put in a rebuilt transmission at about 44K miles. I will ask about the plumbing arrangement and will check the radiator condition. That was good info. Thanks again!

".....aftermarket (?) transmission cooler. 49K miles, recently replaced rebuilt tranny...." Important point to check here. When an auto dies it usually dumps a load of crud into it's cooler located in the bottom of the radiator, usually necessitating the replacement of the radiator. Check to see if the aftermarket cooler has been plumbed in addition to the OE one at the bottom of the radiator, and not in place of it. ... Read More

Opinion - 1999 Jeep Wrangler Sahara Package
Written by: utahjeep on Apr 29, 2005 8:15:45 AM
Howdy all, Kind of new to the Jeep world. Looking at a 1999 Wrangler, Sahara package, automatic, hardtop, AC, cruise control, alloy wheels, tow package, aftermarket (?) transmission cooler. 49K miles, recently replaced rebuilt tranny. They are asking $13,900. I don't know what rear axle it has, but I am having my brother-in-law (big Jeep guy) look at it tonight. Any opinions? I don't think it is worth the $13,900, so ... Read More

Shimmy & Vibration

A few months ago I noticed that my jeep's driver side front wheel had a slight problem. (I have no idea what the technical terms are for these parts so please bear with me) At the wheel base there is a bar that connects the jeep to the tire (if that makes any sense) this bar has a something that is similiar to what I would call and elbow. The boot ... Read More

Spoke Too Soon!

After boasting about the longevity of the OEM Mopar battery in my 1999 Sahara, the ungrateful box of acid decided to die on me Thursday afternoon. The blasted thing would barely turn the engine over. After much prayer the engine fired and I drove home. The next day I finally managed to track down a size 34 NAPA(Exide) Nascar Select battery(I know the Optima is the hot ticket for serious wheeling, ... Read More

Hey, I traced ya back to Dec. 24, 1999! This place started life as "2000 Jeep Wrangler." At some point it was changed to "Jeep Wrangler," then "Jeep Wrangler II," "Jeep Wrangler III," then back to "Jeep Wrangler," as we are now. ( I believe we were "Jeep Wrangler IV" for a while, then they changed our name to "Jeep Wrangler." ) We were "Jeep Wrangler III" when I first posted. ... Read More

Welcome! I've been playing with BMWs for twenty years, and I just bought my first Wrangler(a 1999 Sahara) a little over a year ago. I have been pleasantly surprised by the Jeep's on and off road prowess. If I was buying a new one I would definitely get either a Sport or Sahara with the 4.0, manual transmission, and the Dana 44 rear axle with disc brakes at all four corners. ... Read More

Helpful Advice, Please?

My wife is considering buying a 1999 or newer Wrangler Sport (automatic) for a daily commuter and camping fun-car. She drives 30 mi. each way to work along the Fox River near Chicago. We've seen several nice used vehicles but many have ABS installed. She's inclined toward these, while I'm not so sure. My thinking goes like this: If we buy a Wrangler, we're going to be taking it with us ... Read More

Thanks again for more good trailering advice. I'm still making up my mind about a Wrangler or Cher. Sport. for the job. The guy with the used Wrangler offered to hook up my trailer next week for a try; Pretty generous of him! Hello all. Over the last week or so I've actually gone back and read every message posted in this forum. I feel like I already know most of you and I've never even posted. Anyway, here's my story. I bought a new TJ back in 1999 and loved having it. Unfortunately, I fell to pressure from my wife and sold it in 2000. Well, she's gone now so I started thinking ... Read More

My Water Leak, etc...
Written by: div2 on Jun 25, 2002 5:52:49 AM
I've had my 1999 Sahara since May and it's been essentially trouble free. However, a couple of weeks ago I noticed a musty smell in the interior. Further investigation revealed that the right floorboards were completely water soaked. I checked the JeepsUnlimited Wrangler forum which led me to suspect that the culprit was the design of the A/C evaporator drain tube - a fix which was addressed by a TSB which ... Read More

My 1999 Wrangler's front passenger floorboard fills up with water whether I'm parked or driving when it rains. Doesn't happen thru car wash. Any problems with floor plug or heater box(dealer said I had to change this???). He also told me that the carpet is mildew resistant so my car won't smell. Nice answer huh. I'm fine with it filling up if I take it off road but not during city ... Read More

My '97 Sahara had LOADS of water leaks. All were noted on TSBs from Jeep and had to do with water leaking from the AC, water dripping in through the cowl and some defective gaskets. Here's the links (hope this works..!) 1997 4.0L http://www.alldata.com/TSB/04/970406D2.html 1998 4.0L http://www.alldata.com/TSB/04/980430D2.html 1999 4.0L http://www.alldata.com/TSB/04/990406D2.html 2000 4.0L http://www.alldata.com/TSB/04/000406D2.html There are none listed for the 2001 Wranglers yet. I have been driving Jeeps for many years and I can tell you that if you drive a Jeep like you do a car, there is a good chance it could get away from you. Sudden gusts of wind can throw a Jeep around on the highway, going around corners too fast can result in a spinout and possibly a rollover and driving one can be a whole new experience for ...
