For more then 4 years we regretted ever selling our 1999 Jeep Wrangler that we worked so hard on. Hand painting the camo and adding allot of simply adjustments to personalize "muffin". Spent years dreaming of when we had the doors off and just drove for days.. For some strange reason my wife wanted to get into a 2004 Jeep Commander.. this was the worse jeep we've ever had.. suffering through ... Read More
Well...I found a wacko to sell me the perfect Jeep...in MY budget! I picked up a 1999 Wrangler with 109,000 miles, very nice, very clean; 4-cylinder, soft top. Needs very little body work and the frame is in great shape (My Mechanic inspected and approved it. He also told me if I don't buy it right now, then HE will!) My first Jeep! I'm so happy and so proud!
Happened to me two days ago for the first time. The pump nozzle actually jumped out and landed on the ground (no fuel came out) and a customer that was present told me that it happens to his Jeep Wrangler often. We are spending the summer in New Jersey and gas is dispensed by attendants. In Florida where we live, I don't have much problem with my Jeep (2008) Wrangler 4 ... Read More
My 1999 Sahara has over 106,000 miles on it, and aside from a few easily rectified problems -radiator seam leakage, exhaust manifold, intermittent gauges- it's been dead nuts reliable. Same with my '99 Sahara which I've owned from new and is just now approaching 100K. My issues have been exactly the same plus, I recently had a TPS and clockspring failure, and I also had to add a little Freon to ... Read More
It doesn't make me happy to say it either. It's a real shame. My 1999 Sahara has over 106,000 miles on it, and aside from a few easily rectified problems -radiator seam leakage, exhaust manifold, intermittent gauges- it's been dead nuts reliable. My wife would like a new Islander, but the JK reliability history leads me to believe that owning one during the warranty period would be a pain, never mind ... Read More
Sounds like your transmission is no longer synchronized. I had the same problem with my 1999 Wrangler after "speed shifting" for about a year.

I have 1999 Jeep Wrangler TJ, 2,5L 4 cyl. Two hoses are connected to the top of the valve cover. One of them has oil on itself on the bottom where hose go to the engine. I found issue with the OPINIONS provided on the test of the 2007 JEEP Wrangler Unlimited 4x4. The JEEP is not an SUV; and an SUV, is NOT a JEEP. I have owned a 1993 Wrangler, a 1989 Cherokee (225,000 miles on it when I sold it), a 1999 Grand Cherokee Limited, a 2003 Rubicon, and now a 2007 Rubicon Unlimited. North-Central Kentucky received @5" of snow and 1" of ice over the past two days, dropping fifteen or so trees across the road to our house. Thanks to the Lord and Jeep engineers we were able to bypass all but two of the trees by cutting across a snowy/icy/muddy cornfield in our trusty 1999 Sahara. Our power was off for about fourteen hours so the Jeep allowed us to reach civilization ... Read More
It's a Jeep thang. I bought my 1999 Sahara in May 2002 with the idea that I'd use it as a parade car(long story) and sell it in the fall. I had also heard all the stories about the uncomfortable ride, the unpredictable handling, and horrible HVAC system. Well, we ended up selling a very clean Pathfinder SE and keeping the Jeep. No, it doesn't have Lexus levels of NVH or ... Read More
I recently completed a training course on the Rubicon Trail with a 1999 Wrangler TJ provided by the trainer. I only saw the general rating, but the two door Jeep Wrangler was rated as better than average by CR. This compares to the Wrangler Unlimited which was rated as poor. We have just traded my trusty 200 Dodge Dakota Quad cab 4X4, V8, 5 speed, limited slip (and on and on) for a 2008 Wrangler Unlimited 4X4 Sahara with manual transmission, limited slip and the tow package. I'm looking to buy a used Jeep Wrangler, probably an 03, 04, or 05, and was wondering about how many miles can a Wrangler go before having problems? I bought a 1999 Sahara five speed with 36K miles in 2004. It now has over 105K on it. In addition to scheduled maintenance I've fitted front pads/rear shoes, a radiator(all copper, replacing the OEM plastic/aluminum unit), front sway bar links, Bilstein HD ... Read More
Everyone who rides in my JEEP complains. My wife drives an X3 and her only real criticism of my 1999 Sahara soft top is that it is a little noisy above 60 mph- but she still likes it. Thank you so much mac24,you must be the guru on jeeps,i really appreciate this information.Could the pump going bad be the reason the code p0455(large vacume leak )is comeing on? To replace the filler seal, can I remove the screws from the outside or do I have to go from underneath?
I have 1999 Wrangler with tow hitch and pull around 3000lbs 20foot Center Console with it. I tow it around town but we don't use a boat ramp so i can't help you with that. But the jeep can handle the weight, doing it well depends on your driving. I don't think you'll have a problem but i'll also recommend engaging 4wd.
Our 1999 Jeep Wrangler has no problem coming up to the normal temp but for the life of me can't figure out why it won't blow hot air. The AC is great, the fan works fine and we replaced the thermo stat too. Would love any advice.... Thanks! Terry and Leeann
OK....have a situation here of which I would like opinions. I had 4 new tires put on my 1999 Jeep Wrangler. They are off-brand first off but they were free as I won them in a raffle. I'm going to take this one step further, and as an Internet professional, it is my humble opinion that Edmunds has never gotten Web 2.0. Sorry if I seem like I am flaming, but I have ... Read More
Hi, everyone. I own a 1999 Jeep Wrangler Sport (stick shift) that has about 62,000 miles on it. No a/c could range from a refrigerant leak, to a bad electrical connection to the compressor clutch, to almost anything in between. It's probably worth spending a few bucks for diagnosis at your local independent a/c specialist.
I have a 1999 Jeep Wrangler Sahara and the AC is not working. Any advice any of you have would be most welcome. I am hoping this is just a refrigerant leak. If not, I need to figure out what is needed. If anybody has good leads on copmressors and filter driers please let me know. Look forward to your responses! Mike

Thanks for that information. The seller stated that there was a complete radiator flush performed at the same time as when the cooler was installed. It was installed after the original transmission went out. The dealer put in a rebuilt transmission at about 44K miles. I will ask about the plumbing arrangement and will check the radiator condition. That was good info. Thanks again!
".....aftermarket (?) transmission cooler. 49K miles, recently replaced rebuilt tranny...." Important point to check here. When an auto dies it usually dumps a load of crud into it's cooler located in the bottom of the radiator, usually necessitating the replacement of the radiator. Check to see if the aftermarket cooler has been plumbed in addition to the OE one at the bottom of the radiator, and not in place of it. ... Read More
