I bought this vehicle because I have a 2007 Patriot. The 2011 is a completely different vehicle in terms of comfort, quietness, ride performance. I was expecting to be only satisfied with my purchase but I am ecstatic with it. Great job Jeep!
A lot of people miss the fact that the 2.0 is the model to get with the manual as it is about the same speed as the 2.4 CVT, but with at least 5mpg better observed fuel economy.
Torque: 141 lb-ft. @ 5000 rpm
Horsepower: 158 hp @ 6400 rpm
Torque: 165 lb-ft. @ 4400 rpm
Horsepower: 172 hp @ 6000 rpm
X0.9 for parasitic losses from the CVT vs a manual. =
148.5 @ 4400rpm
154.8 @ 6000
Hardly any real difference at the wheels, but wow what an impact on MPG.
Of course, you could also get the 2.4 with manual, but the point of a Patriot is obviously to be a minivan or small SUV replacement for a lot less money (ie - being as frugal as possible), so getting 22mpg combined is a bad trade-off, IMO, for 2 seconds better 0-60 time.
Get the base model with manual.
And, yes, you can get part-time 4WD with the base model and manual.
High mpg when you are running around town and 4WD for the few times when you need it.
Yes, it has a lock mode - just no low crawl ratio.
Still, perfect for snowy roads and so on - just don't climb up rocks ;)
NOTE - even most 30-40K AWD systems don't have a real physical diff lock mode, which is what saves your bacon.
If you've seen movies of AWD systems failing on snow and ice and hills, it's because they lack a lock mode.
Even the cheapest 4wd Jeep has this, so it's worth noting.
