Review of the 2004 Jeep Liberty

  • A thoroughly capable and comfortable compact SUV if you like to bash boulders, but if you're like most people and spend 99 percent of your time on the pavement, the 2004 Jeep Liberty lags behind its more carlike competitors.

  • Safety
  • Pros

Extremely capable off-road, creative interior design, still a Jeep at heart.

  • Cons

Thirsty at the gas pump, not as "carlike" on the street as most of its competitors.

  • What's New for 2004

All 2004 Jeep Libertys now feature a passenger-side grab handle and a power accessory delay feature, while Renegade models get additional rock rail protection and black accent body side moldings. New options include UConnect, Chrysler's hands-free in-vehicle communication system, a tire-pressure monitoring system and a cargo organizer. Safety is enhanced thanks to a system that unlocks doors, illuminates interior courtesy lights and shuts off the fuel pump after airbag deployment. A new trim -- the Jeep Liberty Columbia Edition -- has been introduced, offering 16-inch graphite-painted aluminum wheels; graphite-painted fascias and body moldings; body-colored fender flares; a sun roof; fog lamps; and Columbia badging.

Rocky mountain trail edition 4wd

Vehicle: 2004 Jeep Liberty Rocky Mountain 4WD 4dr SUV (3.7L 6cyl 4A)

This was my wife's car. First things first; We loved it, it's very safe and reliable, lots of room, never had any major problems with it. Only minor things or expected things like changing the tires and light bulbs. It had 78k miles on it but we lost it due to a t-bone accident. My wife was hit on the driver's side by a pickup truck and the jeep was totaled and my wife walked away with only a couple scratches and bruises. So i found that the Jeep is SAFE!

I needed a new car to get up my steep driveway. My old Ford Thunderbird got stuck twice. My new Rocky Mt Jeep is excellent for the challange. My Mom thought so too so she bought one.

I've had my old car (1987 VW Vanagon) for 17 years. When it became apparent that I needed a new one, I wanted to research it thoroughly since it will be another 17 yrs. before my next new one. I read over 200 reviews from other Liberty owners, Edmunds, Consumer Reports, etc. I bought my Liberty 2 weeks ago and so far am very satisfied! I know the gas mileage isn't that great but it gets a little better than my old car and has much more power! And who cares that the glove compartment is so small...we would just fill it with junk we don't need anyway!
