Review

The JGC with 4.7 V8 is fun to drive, around town and on the highway, it is rated to tow up to 6500 pounds with towing package, I tow a 4500 pound boat with ease, much easier than with my Ford Explorer. My wife drives it daily and loves it, itÂ’s not too large in traffic and parking lots and she likes the performance. The JGC has been reliable, the only problem it has been to the dealer for repair for was to have the front rotors and calipers replaced at no charge as part of a TSB. It's a JEEP!!!

Favorite Features

The smoothness and power of the 4.7 V8, and the excellent radio/CD changer controls on the steering wheel.

Suggested Improvements

Does everything well!

Review

A Comfortable ride, no doubt. However, lots of issues. Feels unstable a lot of times while driving. Maybe because it is a 2WD and not a 4WD. Already had rotors fixed. Poor fuel efficiency.

Favorite Features

Really enjoy the volume and Stereo/FM/CD changer controls on steering wheel. Excellent Climate control system.

2nd Grand Cherokee that I have purchased. This has been an overall great vehicle. I had 1 TBS item taken care of under warranty and I had to replace the front pads at 33,000 miles.

Favorite Features

4x4 system, good looks in and outside, comfortable front seat for taller drivers/passengers.

Suggested Improvements

Brakes (its always been a Jeep issue)

Review

This Grand cherokee is a great truck when it is running, I have had my transmission rebuilt twice under warranty and replaced once, I have had this vehicle back from the dealership for about 10 months and my transmission is going out AGAIN, not to mention that my front end when in 4 wheel drive sounds like It has metal binding when I turn my steering wheel. I bought the extended warranty (thankfully) and will be taking it back in to have it fixed even though the dealership always tries to give it back saying there is nothing wrong with it but in the end they see it my way and start fixing things.

Favorite Features

4.0 engine is has plenty of power (after you replace the exhaust and the air intake) Great looks, can go anywhere, it's a Jeep.

Suggested Improvements

Better transmission for the 6 cyl Jeep, Better fuel economy, better tires (mine couldnt handle being offroad, not even once)

I would never have shown up for this unless my Dad had bought a 300 and had a great experience. Well, yes the front discs have been replaced - no problem. I hit an 8 point buck with it when it was 2 months old - 7k damage but it did not even spill my coffee. Repairs by dealership were absolutely to as new. I love the motor sound of the V8. The stereo makes supurb music. The gas mileage is +2 over a V6 Explorer. All features are well thought out and work!! I have towed and it is immpecable towing. I live in bad weather and it is unfaltering in snow and ice.

Favorite Features

Motor, stereo, fold down rear seats, handling.

I wouldn't buy a jeep again. I bought the car knowing that jeeps aren't the most reliable. The car was towed twice, and has been in the shop at least 2 other times. But don't forget, you're buying an American car, and your really buying a suuped up wrangler.

Favorite Features

My favorite features are the 4 wheel drive, I love the way the car looks, the overhead console computer is cool. My friends pathfinder got stuck in the snow, and I didn't.

Suggested Improvements

The seats are terrible. The car has one of the lowest horse power of an SUV this size. Shifts very roughly. I have a big problem with wind noise.

Review

The 2001 jeep (v8) has excellent, smooth power and gets the exact same gas mileage as our 6cyl.(17 city,19 hiway). Acceptable smooth ride for a 4X4. Has been very reliable so far with only a few small problems (seat heater and warped brake rotors). Dealer very responsive and good to deal with. We don't like the leather seats, too slippery and uncomfortable. Drivers hand and elbow position on the steering wheel awkward and uncomfortable. We love the car and would buy another.

Favorite Features

Style, exterior fit and finish, 4 wheel drive performance is awesome in snow and mud. Love the radio controls on the steering wheel and finally excellent headlights.

Suggested Improvements

Drivers comfort position. No place to rest elbows, crowded cockpit for comfort. Leather seats are slippery and have little support for small people.

Review

This was my second JGC. Had trouble with transmission reliability on the 1st, but not until late in ownership. 2d Jeep had xsmn problems from the start. I took it into the dealership multiple times; they kept supposedly fixing it, but the transmission would continue to shift rough. It ended up in the shop 4 X in 16 months for xsmn problems. It should have been in more times than that, but I kept relying on the service personnel that the problems were minor. Only on the 4th trip-- after the warranty had just expired-- was a substantial $350 problem diagnosed. Despite the Hx, Corporate HQ refused to cover the repair under the warranty.

Favorite Features

Suggested Improvements

In all, I found the vehicle unreliable, the local service inadequate, and the corporate customer service unresponsive and borderline rude during the complaint process. Buy a competing SUV that is more reliable with a more responsive customer service department.

Review

Heard lots of negatives beforehand, but with the exception of the front rotors (repaired once, then replaced 2nd time), I haven't had any problems whatsoever. And, my local Jeep guy made sure that the rotor work was covered by my warranty, even though it was past the 12k-mile brake warranty. Other than that, it's been a pleasure to own!

Favorite Features

Sound system rocks (and I love the controls on the back of the steering wheel -- genius!); V8 is great; I can park it in car spots (unlike many SUV behemoths); wife likes that you don't have to step UP to get into it.

Suggested Improvements

Front rotors; gas mileage.

Review

I purchased my new 2001 well into 2002 and it was a spur of the moment purchase, which was unfortunate because I should have done more research - I may have passed. It's been a nice ride, but don't expect it to have a long life.

Favorite Features

Pros: AWESOME in the snow!!! As well as any offroading. Heated seats are toasty hot - stereo clear and loud, and the Jeep has a lot of get-up-and-go when you feel a bit sassy on the pavement.

Suggested Improvements

100-10,000 miles powersteering broke. DS heated seat broken, needed to see service twice. 5,000-20,000 miles CD changer replaced 3 times, indash replaced once. Can shift very rough with a loud clunk - afraid tranny might drop onto the ground. Spongy brakes - NOTHING like BMW.
