2002 Jeep Grand Cherokee Overland 4WD 4dr SUV (4.7L 8cyl 5A)

Review

This is my 7th Jeep product. The 1st six were great vehicles except for one transmission in a '93 Grand Cherokee. My '02 JGC Overland has had nothing but problems in 111K miles. Brakes, electrical gremlins, heater core @ 99K and now a transmission @ 109K miles. The tech who rebuilt the tranny says rear end due very soon. The car has all highway and some beach miles, so it hasn't been used hard. When the car runs it's a dream. Too bad it likes the shop more than my garage. Maintenance is per the manufacturer schedule. Build quality and reliability of the main parts is suspect. 100K miles is not excessive nowadays. This car should go 200K-300K for the price.

Best Features

Off road capability, comfort.

Worst Features

More reliable, manufacturer back up of product.

2002 Jeep Grand Cherokee Limited 4WD 4dr SUV (4.0L 6cyl 4A)

Review

Great 4 wheeler. Never stranded me in snow but 4 trips to shop for transmission problems and then a $4500 transmission & TCM on fifth visit at 51K miles. Went to court and won back $3,000 of it. Not happy with service or cost.

Best Features

Excellent 4 wheel system. Quadra Drive. Great looks too. Drives nice. My MPG was 20-22 combined which was a lot better than the 12 I expected.

Worst Features

Transmission should be redesigned and tested to make sure there are no problems.

2002 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo 4WD 4dr SUV (4.0L 6cyl 4A)

Review

Had '87 and '88 Cherokee -- over 200k on both. 20-22mpg and few problems. 2002 gets 17mpg, oil leak (rear seal). Computer replaced. Main wiring harness replaced. Rotors replaced. Axle seals replaced. Front axle bearings. Radio/cd replaced. Rear seal again...need I go on? More problems not listed. Hood paint coming off. Still owe over $12,000. Trade in value $10,000. Stay away!

Best Features

Leather and heated seats. Sound system.

Worst Features

Reliability. Ruel economy. Dealer/service that cares and understands.

2002 Jeep Grand Cherokee Limited 4WD 4dr SUV (4.0L 6cyl 4A)

Review

Jeep Cherokees, especially the 4WD Ltd. are great units. Drives great and looks great. The unit exudes power and the looks are high quality. It has the most comfortable seats outside of a SRX or RX330. Fine overall, EXCEPT, the miles per gallon. Chrysler needs to get serious.

Best Features

Looks and comfort. Options. Power.

Worst Features

Gasoline efficiency.

2002 Jeep Grand Cherokee Limited 4WD 4dr SUV (4.0L 6cyl 4A)

Review

I love my Jeep, from a driving standpoint. With the V8, it's quite responsive and fun to drive. Everyone always comments on how comfortable and quiet it is Great for long road trips and nasty weather. But this is the most unreliable vehicle I have ever owned. Luckily we bought an extended warranty when we purchased this vehicle. I can't imagine how many thousands of dollars it has saved us. Problems we have had: the rotors warp and need replacing (3 times so far, until we switched to non-Chrysler parts), bad power steering system, transmission pump, electrical shorts, jammed locks, faulty heating and A/C.

Best Features

Seats are very comfortable. V8 and on-demand 4WD are great in bad weather. Front seat very roomy. Very stylish from the outside.

Worst Features

Poor reliability for just about everything, especially brakes, transmission, and heating/cooling. Poor gas mileage. Poor leg room in 2nd seat.
