I thought I was getting the perfect used car: less than 70,000 miles and a 3,000 mile powertrain warranty. Turns out I've needed to use the warranty three times already - once to replace the PCM, another to replace a bad steering gear, and now to replace bearings in the front differential - all withing the first month! I'm scared of what will come down the road. It's too bad - I love the truck and it's very good at what it does. It looks great in silver, the leather interior is fantastic and it gets 22-23 mpg at 65mph. Off-road nothing can touch it for the money! If you want one, research the maintenance history and make sure the TSB's were done!
Looks great, very comfortable for 4 adults and gear, decent highway mpg, Quadra-Trac 4WD is amazingly capable. After you drive it, you just feel good.
6 cylinder is torquey, but don't ask too much of it. Center console buzzes and squeaks, poor city mpg (13-14) compared to highway. You have to pay attention to these Jeeps, or they will get angry and break! I guess it really is a Jeep thing - most people wouldn't understand ... it's a labor of love.
Very well pleased with the car. It has 123k miles and still runs well. Rear end noise has been a constant problem. Several attempts to repair and did not help. Cockpit very well appointed but needs more room. Very crowded with 4 adults. The ride is comfortable and fun to drive. Exterior paint has held up very well. No serious maintenance problems other than rear end. Sound system is very good but speakers are cheapo's.
Fun to drive. Handles and turns sharply. Love the V8. Car interior is well appointed. Love styling and leather interior. Very reliable.
More cockpit room. Too cramped. Move spare tire under car. A/C vents for rear passengers. Hand grips over windows for all passengers. Do something about rear end noise. Speakers not reliable; have had 3 replaced. Car leans too much in turns over 35 mph. More cup holders.
Bought one year ago with 68,000 miles. I have put 20,000 miles on it in 12 months. I have had to replace fuel pump for around $600, light sensor for $250, heater blower and heater switch $700. Very concerned about ongoing repairs; these Jeeps seem to be very costly to repair. It also seems to leak a lot of fluids, I have taken it in several times to try and get leaks to stop. Do not like that the tire is inside and takes up space. I would not buy another one.
4x4 and it pulls wells.
Well, too late to improve the 1997 and not sure how the new ones are!
I got a great deal on my 97 Grand
Cherokee Limited and I love it! I have
owned Subarus for the last 15 years in
Alaska, but I am enjoying my Jeep even
more. Goes great in snow and ice with
no studs. Love the stereo and options
galore. Has 97000 miles and my
mechanic has found no mechanical
problems. I still have to get the
driver's heated seat fixed, power not
getting there. I will keep this one
until it dies, then get another.
Electric sunroof, leather seats are
comfy, stereo controls on the steering
wheel, lots of head room, I finally
sit up high.
Move the spare underneath, a bit more
leg room in the back seat.
