Acceleration is sluggish on the way to a 0-60 acceleration time of 11 seconds. During everyday driving, though, keeping up with traffic is less of a problem. As expected, the CVT transmission is smooth.
The steering feels good, with reasonable good effort buildup and response. But the handling limits are quite low and there isn't much fun to be had here.
Our Compass rode a bit firmer than other small SUVs in its class, a usual side effect of sportiness. Thing is, there isn't much of that, either.
The 2.4L inline four-cylinder and CVT transmission can be quite loud under load, and the lack of traditional shifting imparts a droning quality.
Big, easy-to-use HVAC knobs. The radio and navigation controls are also easy to understand.
General visibility is acceptable, although the hood is a bit high and the rear pillars are somewhat thick.
Seat Access & Space
Front and rear-seat passengers alike will find plenty of headroom. Legroom in the rear is a bit tight, and the rear seats are better suited to a pair of passengers instead of three.
Cargo & Storage
For its size, there's a reasonable amount of cargo capacity, and it increases a great deal with the second row folded.
Hard plastics are used throughout the interior. Build quality is generally good, but some of the exterior gaps are a bit large.
Four-wheel-drive variants offer an electronically controlled coupling with off-road four-wheel-drive lock.
