EDITORS' RATINGS OVERALL SCORE:

Overall

RATING

The Jeep Commander's rugged appearance and strong Hemi V8 engine belies it's overly soft ride.

DETAILED EDITORS' RATINGS

Dynamics

RATING

Ponderous in corners. The Hemi engine is quite strong, but has a jerky throttle and is very thirsty. The 4x4 system works seamlessly.

Comfort

RATING

It rides soft, but is excessively floaty. The driving position is adjustable, and the seats are soft.

Function

RATING

There is little storage space in the cabin, and the vertical windshield inhibits visibility. The third row seat eats up a substantial amount of cargo room and creates a high lift-over, even when not in use. Most of the controls are easy to use.

Design/Build Quality

RATING

Looks traditional to the point of being out of date. Build quailty is spotty.

DETAILED PROFILE:

Towing Capable Hemi power aids towing.

Cargo Hauler Average rear cargo capacity with third-row folded flat.
