2006 Jeep Commander Limited 4dr SUV (4.7L 8cyl 5A)
I had a 2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee, and I decided on the Commander for its third row seat (small children) and safety. The 4.7 V8 is much better than the old I 6. The ride is very smooth and quiet. It is much better in town and on the road than my wife's 2005 Explorer; however, the Explorer's V6 is about 2-3 mpg better than the Commander.
I love the retro style inside and out. The ride is smooth and QUIET. The back up sensors are great and have saved me money. The six cd Boston Acoustics system is superb, but read the owner's manual to set it up. I find the seats very comfortable, and it is easier to enter than many SUV's.
I would like to see a 4 cylinder/8 cylinder system a la the Hemi. The large outside mirrors are great, but their size makes entering the garage like threading a needle. An independent rear suspension would make the 3rd row more user friendly. Handling is quite good. No matter, I love this vehicle.
