2006 Jeep Commander 4dr SUV 4WD (3.7L 6cyl 5A)

What we don't like about the Jeep is the fuel economy, sound system, climate system, and reliability. With mixed city/highway miles we average 14-15mpg which is what the vehicle is rated for in city-only driving. 250-300 miles at most per fill-up -The climate system has been replaced yet the floor vents never shut off no matter the setting. -The sound system has too much bass even when completely turned down. -After the transmission fluid was flushed twice, the car still had problems shifting so the transmission was replaced around 30k after arguing with the dealership. -Both of the oxygen sensors failed before 60k miles and the whole exhaust had to be removed to replace them.

Favorite Features

The Jeep Commander is reasonably comfortable and well suited for long trips (as long as you like stopping for gas often). Even our base 3.7L 4x4 model has some nice features such as separate rear-zone climate controls, trip consumption computer, comfortable power seats, lots of storage, easy access to the third row (although the third row is practically useless)

Suggested Improvements

Although we bought our Jeep Commander 3.7L 4X4 used and thought it was a good value we have had significant issues with it that we first thought were isolated but that others have reported having issues with as well. It handles very poorly, goes through tires quickly, and has a small gas tank for the rate at which it goes through fuel, the transmission is very slow to change gears and the 3.7L engine is very underpowered for the weight of the car. Passing on the highway requires a lot of space. The interior is relatively well thought out although materials are a bit cheap, especially the seat fabric which discolors with any type of moisture contact including plain water.
