I have a 2001 Jeep Cherokee Sport; it will not start at all. Any suggestions?
I have owned 2 Jeeps, a 2001 JGC Laredo (loaded but with I6 and Selec trac, your best bet in that vintage) and the past 4 years a 07 Laredo with 4.7 V8. Note that one wasn't my first choice but my wife really likes Jeeps and the price was $8k less than the GMCAcadia equivalent features vehicle. Your heat problem is due to either a problem with a vacuum motor or a vacuum switch that moves the doors in the vent system. Should be $200 max to fix that. Coolant always flows thru the heater core so there's nothing wrong under the hood, unless core got plugged with debris (highly unlikely). If the paint is bad and/or interior ripped I would sell it, but $800 is too low ... Read More

I was driving on a slight incline and heard this grinding/clucking noise underneath the bottom in the center I continued to drive no noise then as I came to the slight inclined I heard this noise again Has any one else had this to happen What is this noise?
Will swap out the battery and see what happens. Thanks.
All I know is that a battery that is going out on a jeep is headaches cheaper to put in new battery than hair transplants so if it were me would change battery first probley the least expensive thing to do always start with cheapest item then work up to the expensive stuf
Couple of years. Load test indicates its still good. No other indications, i.e.,slow starter spin, etc, of battery problem.
how old is the battery?
I am guessing that much of the electronics would be shared by the two models. With a little luck we'll have someone with hands on experience jump in here to help out. Anyone? tidester, host SUVs and Smart Shopper
Spent some time looking through those posts...didn't see anything that aligned, and, since that is for Grand Cherokees, wasn't sure how applicable it would be to my Cherokee Classic anyway. Did they make the electrical systems the same on these two models?

I had the blower motor resistor problem on my 2001 Jeep Grand Cherokee where the connector melts. I am replacing the connector and noticed there is always 12 volts going to the connector, even when my Jeep is off. Is this normal?
If you pay somebody to rebuild your engine or install a used engine, make sure you get a 90 day warranty on the compression test. V8 is cool. But, assuming it can be made compatible, maybe an I6 would be easier to find and cheaper. My 97 2wd JGC has the 4.0 I6. Acceleration was good but I don't tow
What type of pricing are you seeing for you to replace your guys' engines?
We just recently had one of our 2001 Jeep GC throw a piston through the engine block, and are replacing it with a remanufactured engine. Ours is a 4.0L engine. How many people are having/had this issue?
My 2000 jeep Grand Cherokee 4.0 has the same issues,i am in the process of replacing the engine with another low mileage engine. It might be very costly to try to repair.I would search around to see if I could get another engine if I were you.
I have a 4.7 Litre V8 2001 Jeep Grand Cherokee. Totally out of the blue it threw a connecting rod and the piston went up into the head. We now have to get a new engine. Has this happened to anyone else? Is this common in Jeeps? Do you think it is worth repairing?
who installed the engine?? try taking it back to them-then napa!!.. --a GREAT trick i learned with vacum leaks is to take carb cleaner, and a "straw"(like on a can of wd40?) spray around these places that it could be leaking--while the engine is running--if the engine starts stalling-or running faster--THAT'S WHERE YOUR VACUM LEAK IS!!! fixing the leak is the next step.. good luck!!
Chris, I have a 2001 Cherokee, and have the same issue. Have you been able to resolve this, and if so, could you elaborate? Thanks.
Last fall my engine light came on, and I took my Jeep to the dealer to get it repaired. $100 later I was told that I needed to replace my gas cap. Before I could replace it, the light went out. I cannot find a fuse for the cruise control either in the fuse box by the passenger seat, or in the fuse box in the engine... and the fuse for the horn is not blown
Have you looked at your fuses carefully to make sure that it is not a blown fuse?
I do not think it has to do with the vacuum line because both the horn and the cruise control does not work, and I am not getting and lights on the dash that says the cruise control is engaging.... ergo i think it is some kind of electrical problem.
I had the same problem, the cruise control would not engage. What it turned out to be was that my battery had leaked acid on the hose that run's down to the vacuum which is attached to the bumper, and had actually melted it apart. What I did was purchase a 1/4" hose about 6" long from Autozone, attached each end to the broken hose and taped it firmly with hose ... Read More

I suggest a quadruple check on the vacuum lines. Maybe one of the check valves on the valve cover is reversed? Usually a rough idle will eventually be chased down to a vacuum line either partially connected, disconnected, or connected to the wrong place.

Still sounds like a vacuum leak of some sort.
