    Do you have a check engine light that is intermittent? Does it want to stall as you come to a stop? It has been my experience that rough idle AND having to gas it to keep it running is a bad Oxygen sensor. My 99 has 4 of them. It cost $1000 to change them all out after having similar problems.     Hi, I had this problem! Trust me I know were your coming from, KEEP THE CLUTCH FLUIDS AT THE RECOMMENDED LEVEL, And also keep the Coolant at the recommended level. It sounded insane but it works! If that doesnt solve your issue, It could be a bad clutch and it may need to be replaced. I'm rolling up on about 600,000 miles with my Jeep Cherokee 4.0 5SPD. They indestructable!!!!!!

    My jeep has been running very rough and dying randomly unless I give it gas constantly. I recently replaced the battery terminal connectors and spark plugs and I tested the battery and alternator with a multimeter several times (all OK).     Battery drain when ignition is off. I have isolated the problem to the curcuit protected by fuse #7 labeled: Body Amp, Cluster, Body controller. This is a 20 amp fuse and when removed the battery no longer drains down. Need to know the likely circuit that may be at fault. With the fuse removed I have no instrumentation. Thanks!

    As your tires get more worn and subsequently slightly out of balance, that will aggravate the shake. Perfectly balanced new tires help it out. The older your suspension gets,also will show more signs of aggravation also. With a lift, that may pose some other problems unto itself as things wear but I think your on the right track with the parts your planning. Should help anyway.

    The steering stabilizer strut and trac bar should take care of your problem. Worked perfectly for me. Had very bad wobble on my 92 cherokee. The steering stabilizer strut is cheapest and then the trac bar but both aren't that bad. $200 including labor for both approx. if you take it somewhere. I replaced both at the same time on mine.

    look and see if you are rubbing the inside of tire sounds as if turn stops are not set or you have larger tires than called for (prob this as most people like to install one or two size larger tire on there jeeps )

    1996 Jeep Cherokee 2WD- the car sometimes doesn't want to start (engine won't even turn). Sometimes you have to take the car out of gear and put back into park to get it to start. We've replaced the starter, but this appears not to be the problem. It is a hit and miss when this occurs, no common items to tie to a specific cause.

    I just bought a 1996 Cherokee--they sold it because the headlights weren't working. We changed the headlight switch and now have high beams but not low beams. I would really like to know how you solved the problem with yours.

    a buddy of mine owns a 93 grand cherokee and recently he over heated it. the upper radiator hase blew off blowing coolant every where. now for some reason the jeep will only start and stay running for a few seconds? is there some kind of switch or some thing that might have tripped?

    This sound to me as the rear differential will need to be over hauled. First check the fluid level in the diff, if it is low, then top it up. Try the vehicle again, and then check behind you rear rotors to see if your axle seals are leaking fluid.     Bad News. My 96 grand ch. did the same thing. Over $750 to replace the fuel pump located in the fuel tank. Jeep should be ashamed for the poorly placed pump. rth54

    My 96 jgc did the same thing. Had difficulty starting on several occasions then finally refused to start at all. Turned out to be the fuel pump located in the gas tank. Cost over $700 to get the job done. That was 2 years ago and haven't had any problems with it since. Good Luck. rth54

    I own a 1996 Jeep Cherokee and have an oil drip from the drain plug. Tightening the drain plug does not help. The local parts store tried to sell me a bigger self tapping plug which I am a bit hesitant to install - might ruin the oil pan.
