I was experiencing the same problem with my 1995 JGC. I have roughly 150K w/ a 4.0L, replaced most all the sensors and cleaned the throttle body. It did some good but it would continue to stall sporadically. I began to tug at the harness one afternoon and discovered that the engine would stall when I pulled on the wire harness connected to the PCM behind the overflow reservoir. I went ... Read More

My 1995 jeep grand cherokee 4x4 I6 with automatic transmission with 150K miles runs great but twice recently it would not shift out of first gear making it very difficult to drive. The car returns to normal if allowed to set for a while. Shifting manually into first gear doesn't help. I am a girl away at college and would really like to find the problem. The transmission has been flushed ... Read More

We had a 1995 V8 Jeep GC with front differential problems. The Jeep would "hum" at 55 mph. If you increased the speed, the "hum" became louder. This vehicle was on a 30 month lease. The dealer installed two sets of gears and related parts. The "final fix" was a complete front differential. By the time this was done to the vehicle, the lease was finished, and the Jeep was turned ... Read More

  • Cherokee engine overheats while idling or driving slow

I've got a 1995 Jeep Cherokee 4wd with 126,000 miles on it. Just recently it's started overheating while it's idling or driving slow. If I can get up to a higher speed it will cool back down. Isn't really using coolant. I had the thermostat and water pump replaced this winter and haven't had this problem before.

  • Suggestions on what Cherokee year to buy (used)?

I'm looking into buying a used (recently turned in lease) Cherokee. I found a pretty nice ride...a 1996 Cherokee Country 4 door, 4WD. My sister has a 2001 Cherokee Sport, and I am accustomed to the ride. People come over from sports cars and expect the same soft, luxury ride in an SUV...but that just doesnt happen. I like the rugged Cherokee and IMO the inline 4.0 can't be beat. Superb ... Read More

When I told my beat-up 1995 model of the news of the last of its kind rolling off the line , it sighed and nearly gave up the ghost.( till I explained to it that now that it was finally paid for, it would serve me till I can afford a Liberty. It has 86,000 miles on it, so it should be okay for a few more years, easily. It's a ... Read More

Sasquatch_2000, Ummm, since about 1995, Jeep said to heck with locking hubs, axle disconnects and any similar devices. What this means is the front and rear axles, differentials and driveshafts are always turning. With proper lubrication it's fine, because with the typical Part Time system on most Cherokees, the front wheels are not *driven* most of the time. They are just turn, and all they do is stir up a bit ... Read More
