Re: Jaguar 2000 XJ8-L - Chain Tensioner Replacement [als961]
Yes it will take 12 hours or more if you go into the core and replace all. The top Tensioner is the problem child and why replace good parts that can last for years? I purchased my Tensioner from Jaguar Cleveland PH:440-542-0601 and received via UPS total cost for both $152.17 parts number CA21511 C2A1512 for the new design. When you unbolt the cam shaft, lift the ... Read More...
Re: Jaguar 2000 XJ8-L - Chain Tensioner Replacement [denham]
Dennis, Thanks for your advice. The dealer told me that it would take around 12 hours since they have to remove so many parts to get to the core. They told me majority of the work is labor, assuming $120/hour, that is about $1500 just for labor. Not sure why the parts would cost and additional $1200. How much are these parts ? He indicated once there you might as well ... Read More...
Re: Jaguar 2000 XJ8-L - Chain Tensioner Replacement [als961]
Change out these Tensioner that give the problem is no big deal, and yet the dealers make big bucks. You need only remove the valve covers unbolt and lift the cam shaft and the top Tensioner can be replaced. It took me less than three hours to change out both on mine. Good Luck and get back with me! Jaguar 2000 XJ8-L - Chain Tensioner Replacement
I am the original owner of this Jaguar. It only has 70000 miles and been regularly maintained by the local dealer. Never had any issue until a week ago where upon starting the car I got a very rough start. I brought the car to the dealer and they indicated that there it is related to Tensioner which might be broken and the cost $2700 to have everything checked and replaced. ... Read More...
2008 Jaguar XJ Super 8 depreciation chart
Two Years Old Should be Under $30K
Depreciation is pretty steep for the first two years on new Jaguars. I bought my beautiful 2000 XJ8 when it was three years old with 45,000 miles for $20,000, cheaper than a new Honda Civic Hybrid at the time. Others one year newer were about $25,000 - $28,000. I think the prices are still pretty close to those levels at the place I used, which sells exclusively Jaguar-owned ... Read More...
Jaguar XJ Series Engine questions and issues
Re: 2000 XJ8 ASC/TRAC/Failsafe Engine Mode Lights! [stancho]
Thanks for your advice on the throttle connector. I haven't had the throttle body issue come up again since the second replacement in 2007, but shortly after that procedure I began to get smoke from the exhaust pipe on a "cold" start to the car (i.e. after it was sitting for awhile). The dealer took the entire engine apart and found sludge from the prior leaseholder ... Read More...
Jaguar XJ-Series Electrical Glitches
Re: I am thinking of buying a Jaguar XJ8 [adoug]
super car - had one for 5 years it was purrrfect. Watch out for the ones pre 2000 - they had issues with timing chain tensioners and the nikasil bore problems - there is an engine number after which all is well, sadly I don't have this any more. Having said that, my car was a 99 and the engine was smooth and quiet and never missed a beat. Sold it at 95,000 miles. Go ahead - ... Read More...
Jaguar XJ Transmission Questions
Re: 2000 jaguar xj8 and a light came on saying transmission [waits]
The verdict unfortunately is in. Went to change the fluids (almost 60,000 miles) what we found out fluid was greenish (from what I understand this this is the expensive stuff) but it had a bronze residue to it. The magnets had metal shavings to it (which is expected) but the bronze large deposits in the pan are a sign of thrust washers (according to my mechanic). ... Read More...

Re: 2000 jaguar xj8 and a light came on saying transmission [huve]
I'm a real amateur at this..but don't wait for answers here...Take it in. Hey..one of your plugs is going bad, or, maybe oild isn't getting up into the engine due to a clog in the line that goes down into your pan...maybe the coupling to the tranny is starting to wear out...or the tranny fluid is low...or the tranny is going.... THis year I replaced my transmission, ... Read More...
