I have a 1990 Jaguar XJ^ Vandenplas. I've had problems with starting the car, need to change the battery. The last time I was able to start the car the transmission light came on, the one that says the motor is in "limp home' mode. don PLEASE tell me that you found the (an) answer to this problem with the blowers. I have the exact problem just as you described it and as a result I have no a/c in my 1990 Jaguar xj6. Local dealer is no help and wants a fortune to just diagnose the problem. Read More...

Well you'll have to have the transmission diagnosed to see if limp mode is from an external or internal problem. If it's from an external sensor or control unit it may be worth fixing. If it's internal, the car is probably not worth repairing, you are right. You could buy a clean, low mileage 1990 XJ6 with a good transmission for less money than overhauling your transmission, ... I have a XJ6 and I washed my car then the tranny went into limp mode so I dried it out and it still will not come off. Is there a way to manually take it off of limp mode or did something fried out when it got wet? I never had a problem with it until I washed it and everything is dry, it has been about 3 mo. The 1990 xj and others of its model were fraught with self-inflicted problems. (Jaguar engineers/designers, either didn't know or didn't care about what they were doing); so, the results are well known but the overall style of the car still had its litheness of line that has always attracted so many admirers. Sharing V6s is ok, many automakers do that. V8s however, should remain M-B exclusive. I whole-heartedly agree with your testimony. I had numerous problems with my '98 LS that I promised myself that I wouldn't ever buy another again, no matter how reliable they were supposed to be. As for the LS400 The 1990-1994 had a flair to me. I remember a line from a Car and Driver review of the 1995 that said it lacked the flair of the less perfect model. That car was too antiseptic to me. There are some posters on here which have commented about Lexus acknowledging that the revision was too conservative.
