- check for Nikasil problems in the engine. It affects 1998-2000 XJs. - Brembo brakes came standard on the 2002 XJR 100 along with BBS wheels. The "100" celebrated the 100 anniversary of the birth of Jaguar's founder, Sir William Lyons. Merc, I have to disagree. I know how much you hate JDP, but they seem to be the only ones who provide "accepted" stats on this subject. For 2002 Lexus cars had something like 178 defects per 100 vehicles. Jaguar was third with something like 250 and I know MB, BMW are signficantly higher.. That's almost a 50% differential. I think Jaguar did the right thing. Think about it, Jaguar has angered their traditional customers with the 2000-2002 S-Type and the X-Type, not being up to snuff in their eyes. The one that caused hearts to stop in England was the decision to sell a front-wheel-drive X-Type. I have been a Jag fan since the 50's when one of the guys in our sports car club had a D-Jag and was it hot. Me - I was young and could only afford an MGA. Delay on new XJ
I was recently at my local Jaguar dealership and one of the salespeople told me that the new XJ was not going to be debuted until April 2003 at the NYC or Detroit, I can't remember which, auto show. Is this old news? I was under the impression that the debut was to take place in September 2002 in Paris.

Bill, The issue was/is that if you sell a car,representing that the interior,including the console,is made/trimmed with leather,it is what you should get. Not vynil/ambla. I do have this proposition (buy-back) and the replacement of vynil/ambla parts with real leather,in writting, from someone pretty close to Jaguar NA President. There are several 96 & 97 xj6's on ebay that are v12's. It seems to me that the 12's go for less than a similar model with the 4 liter 6. Doesnt make sense to me unless something is wrong with the 12's in general. Your dealer was right. It's a great rate at 799/mo on an XJ8 and the profit is so small they will not be throwing in any extras. Your dealer should have informed you that all 2002 Jaguars include free scheduled maintenance for the whole 4/50k warranty period. Remember that payment is with only about $1100 total out of pocket. I think that's the one I'm going to take out in March 2002 also. Looking at Warrantech also for our Jeep Grand Cherokee Ltd. They are asking $1,500 for a 5 year/100,000 mile warranty. Has anyone bought an extended warranty from a company called "Warranty Direct"? They are on the internet. Prices are about $1,000 cheaper than the dealers through Warrantech. They offer a bumper to bumper warranty. My 4 year jaguar warranty runs out in March of 2002. Trying to do some research before then. Please let me know what companies anyone has dealt with. Thanks!

Nothing extravagent. I drove it Monday night at Infinit dealer. As last time, they had about 15 Q45's on the lot eating dirt. Pros: It is quick to fast. It's got a very smooth, quiet,and responsive engine. Likewise, the engine works well with transmission. Yes, seen a 2002 Q45 in Black exterior at a Infiniti dealer 2 weekends ago. IMO, it looks better in black, but still is unnattractive to my eyes. The chromeless grille and oddly shaped and sized frontal features just don't work. The Jaguar/Audi rear end knock-off is nice though. But the interior is only so-so. Better looking and faster than anything but an M5. How can you not love 370HP and almost 400 foot/lbs of torque. Not to mention optional BBS 2 piece alloy wheels and brembo brakes. Jaguar XJ series should be redesigned in 2002. They run on a 7 year cycle for sedans. Although the XJS ran 21 years before they replaced it with the XK8 coupe. I'm waiting to see what the new 7 series BMW will look like also. Don't much like the new S-class(though it is growing on me) or the new LS430(look to much like the old S-class)

The current Jaguar XJ8 platform has been used for over a decade. So it's been well known that a new XJ8 platform was soon to come. 2002 model year is the expected date of the next generation XJ8. Using a completely new platform but retaining traditional Jaguar styling!!! I'm looking forward to seeing what gem Jaguar turns out!!
