Engine Light On?
2001 Jaguar XJ8 Engine Light came on and after car sets for a few day at times difficult to get started. Once started runs fine and restarts with no problem. Changed fuel filter, new spark plugs and air filter and this did not help. Car runs fine just this engine light and difficult getting started only at times? This car has 81,000milesw and often sets for weeks before driven.

I have replaced tires on my XJ8 with the Michelin 225-60R-16 98V MXV4 and when car sets and n drove first 5-10 miles the tires flat spot shake the car and steering wheel. Thank you. I had contacted the only Jaguar dealership in the Twin Cities, Downtown Jaguar. Not only were they rude but asked why I didn't buy a car from them and said it would be "weeks" before I received the manual and cost was $125.00+. I don't mind the cost but their attitude I can live without. 'trying eBay now.

Hi Jefk, I have the same problem with my Jaguar XJ 2001. Initially the 'trac not available' error came once in a blue moon when i started the car but no it's getting more frequent, even when i drive slow in traffic jams. Assuming that your problem is fixed, what eventually solved it? Thanks Anno

Front Shock Absorber Bushing Falling Apart
On my 2001 XJ8 the upper bushings on both my front shock absorbers are falling apart and the bellows have fallen down. Are these bushings easy to change with out having to go to the dealer? What I found in my research was, that if the last 6 places of the VIN start with the letter 'F', then the vehicle does not use Nikasil and is fitted with steel liners. I would seriously consider the 03 because it is only 1K more and you would not have any chance of purchasing an auto with a potential Nikasil problem. It was a known problem for late 97 - 01 4.0L V8 Jaguars and BMWs as well. The nikasil liner was abolished by the '02 -'03 models. You can read about it on the internet if you'd like. I have a 2001 XKR leased in 2001 and up in 2005. I have low milage (19000mi) and like the car so much that I am thinking of keeping it when the lease expires. I am wondering if you can get a factory warranty from Jaguar if obtained at the end of the lease or do you have to get it from a non Jaguar source? Thanks

To buy or not to buy a 2001 XJ8???
I agree with Nvbanker if you are worried about maintenance keep on looking but if you are willing to put up with a few problems. There's nothing like a Jaguar to distant yourself from the crowd plus a Select Edition car will have an extended warranty. So do you want to step away from the crowd :)

I just had the "low coolant light" appear...
...On my wife's 2001 XJ-8. The car has 7200 miles on it, and will be 3 years old this December. It took about a pint of coolant and distilled water to top off the car. Spoke with the dealership's Jaguar mechainc a few days later, and he says that's "About normal".

well I did it! I have a 2001 VDP I bought it at Galpin Jaguar in CALI. for $42,900 w/20,000 mile and it is a Star Marked. I like it the more I drive it. Its like a small RR but you do not see me comming from miles away. Any other owners have advice for me DAVID B.

You will not be able to replace it as a single piece. The 4 door pieces come as a "matched" kit. If you look at it closely you will see they all have the same grain/pattern.
