I agree with Pablo regarding the lack of proportion on the longer wheelbase. I think that it is due to the fact that they only extended the back of the car and having doors/glass of od differents lengh look a little weird. I also, beside the fact that I am 6.3 prefer the style of the sport seat with the perforated leather look. From a interior point of view, the XJR have ... Read More

  • My Nightmare

I leased a "98" XJ8 yesterday 6/2/2001 from a Used Car dealer in Illinois. They had 10 to choose from and I bought a Sapphire one with Ivory interior with 31,000 miles on it. The body has (had) a few minor paint blemishes, nothing major. Here is the nightmare; I live in Indiana where we do not have front license plates. While I was in sighing the papers, they were "cleaning ... Read More

  • 88 Jaguar XJ6. 2001 XJR

Post 269 make a comment about the 88-89 having the worst quality of the XJ 40. I have, beside my 74 Roadster and 2001 XJR, a 1988 with 115000 miles on it. I have been very happy with it and the problems on it have been minimal and not very costly. Bulb faillure module Rebuilt $ 49 Rack and pinion Rebuilt $ 300 2 rear shocks New $ 500 That's it ... I just bought a 2001 JR,Anthracite (black) with Warm Charcoal interior. What a great car! I am not new to Jaguar since I own a 88 XJ6 with 115000 miles on it and a fully restored 74 V 12 E -type Roadster,British racing Green with Biscuit interior. The few things that I don't like on the JR are the followings: No oil pressure gauge No voltage/battery gauge Too much Ambla (vinyl). ... Read More

I just received my "Road and Track" for June, 2001. It, too, has an article on the new Jag. "X". Although brief, it sheds further light on the design and engineering relationships between Ford of Dearborn and Jaguar of Coventry. (Please refer to my note above in which I reference "Motor Trend" for June, 2001, which has a review article also.) Happy reading and, for some at least, yearning ! christchurch ... Read More

I was looking at replacing my '95 Jeep Grand Cherokee. The new Jeeps were running around $36K. For a lark, I decided to meander over to my local Jaguar dealer, since I've been eyeing Jag's for years and always telling myself, "Someday...". Well, the new 2001's were nice, but with stickers at and above $70K, they were a little rich for my blood, and the S-Type at $50K fully loaded didn't ... Read More

  • JAGUAR OWNERS ---TAKE NOTICE

net ranger has answered a query I made to him several weeks ago. Seems as though he had "sage advice" from a "friendly old mechanic". Now he has passed this on and it is the best advice I have seen on line. I am copying his note and calling attention to it so that all of you don't miss it. In fact, it would be good to print this and save ... Read More

I agree that the current XJR is the most beautiful of the super sedan trio (M5, E55, XJR). Hell, it is the most beautiful sedan out there today. The mesh grill and 18' rims also contribute, but the design is pure brilliance. I too think that the next XJ will be more mainstream, but I don't think that is a bad thing. Not that this is a fair comparison at all, ... Read More

  • XJ8 /2001 OPINIONS ANYONE?

Written by: bgmw on Mar 23, 2001 11:41:02 AM

Looking at the new 2001 XJ8, my very first one, and am interested in anyone's advice / opinions. The interior is a bit tight but I only took my first of a few test drives - cannot judge it by 20 minute test. Any history about mechanical problems? Or has Jaguar come around from what I have heard from others.
