Jaguar made quality cars and if maintained properly will go a long way. Didn't see the "serviced timing chain/belt" which gets done @ 60K mi., if it fail severe engine damage is almost certain. So if I buy a $2000 XJ8 from those years now, I probably expect to get about 10000 miles of trouble free driving and after that it would be $10000+ in repair to fix problems, rebuilding transmission and rebuilding engine must be accounted for (in ... A "real" XJ6, according to purists, anyway, are the models made from 1969 until 1987. XJ40's are the more squared off Jags (look for rectangle taillights) from 1988 until 1994, and the X300 is the 1995-1997 Jags. Some call the 1998 & newer X300's, and some call them the X308, the last number denoting the V-8 engine. Sound simple enough? Now for the really confusing stuff. For quite a while, the ... Read More

Well, I must say that my impressions of Jaguar have certainly been radically altered in the last year, after being a member of Town Hall...Altho I have been associated with the auto industry for almost 30 years, I did not realize that Fords purchase of Jaguar has been so successful in raising standards of quality and reliability...My knowledge of Jag was a division of British Leyland, which meant that your car ... Welcome to the "new car" Jaguar world. There is nothing like a new car. There is such pleasure being the first to sit behind the wheel and peel off the new car stickers. I recall a real pleasure I had when I was at the dealer when my "new baby" arrived on the truck. I recall watching as it was driven down from the carrier and parked in the sun. It ... Read More

I purchased a 1998 XJ8L (14,000 miles) 2 weeks ago. I brought it in to the dealer to check it out. They kept it a week (replaced brakes, oil change, overall inspection). I drove the car 1 week and it stalled getting off an exit. I brought it back to the dealer. They checked the throttle and said nothing was blocked. Told me to drive it a few more days and ... Hello to all: I just bought a 1998 xj8 after nearly two months of shopping. Like many others who buy a Jaguar, this was my dream car. There is nothing like it for the exceptional beauty and styling, is there? So, here's the story. I have been driving Japanese cars for ten years and came down to the Jaguar and Lexus as the final candidates. Obviously the kitty grande won. I ... Read More

Hello ChristChurch,Shezhad, arcoates, I just bough a 1998 VandenPlas with 47k miles on in for 32. It is immaculate. Had it checked out and seems to be nothing wrong with car. I will have it checked out by a Jag dealer in my area. I bought a extended warranty from a co. called Herritage. It sounded good for me. Anyone know of the company? My wife is in serious love with this ... Read More

I have a 1999 XJ8, and to be honest, I would disagree with the gentleman recommending the 6 cylinder over the 8 cylinder engine. First of all, b/c of the interior-I found the 6 cylinder interior to be kind of busy and difficult to follow, especially while driving, whereas the redesign in 1998 made the dash considerably more streamlined. Also, the recommended maintainence interval on the 8's is every 10,000 miles, ... Read More
