2012 Jaguar XF Supercharged Sedan (5.0L V8 Supercharger 6-speed Automatic)
Jaguar's 2012 XF Supercharged is an example of a large sport sedan done right. Although it lacks the complex adjustments and features of many German competitors, this car's tuning makes a perfect compromise. It's fast, smooth, comfortable and it's got enough amenities.
PerformanceHandling might not be quite as sharp as the more focused competiton but if that's a concern there's always the XFR.
Get in, put your foot down, and the XF Supercharged runs a 12.8-second quarter. Think about it bit and it runs a 12.6. Awesome.
Solid consistent brake feel. No fancy calipers, either.
Steering response is good but not as snappy as some competitors.
Good enough for anyone who doesn't want the most focused sedan. Conservative ESC, but a solid chassis allows TRAC mode to shine.
Very easy to drive in default settings. Dynamic mode sharpens responses considerably.
ComfortSporty yet comfortable enough for days of cruising, the XF Supercharged is an excellent sport sedan.
Highly adjustable seats with heating and ventilation.
Ride quality makes an excellent compromise between comfort and enthusiasm. Not as adjustable as its German rivals, yet it's an example of a sport-sedan suspension done just right.
Amply quiet inside. Supercharger whine isn't perceptible. A great cruiser.
InteriorStitched leather and other premium materials dominate the XF's interior space. Modern navigation, audio and climate conveniences are present as well. No ground breaking advances, but it's luxurious for sure.
Some unusual goings on here. The XF's knob-style shifter is a love-it-or-hate-it affair.
The XF is easy to climb into and out of. Large rear-seat passengers might have trouble if the front seats are set fully rearward.
Ample front seat space. Rear seats will accommodate all but the largest passengers for long distances.
The XF's shape does somewhat inhibit rear quarter visibility.
Trunk space is adequate to accommodate one international suitcase and one medium suitcase plus several soft bags.
ValueFor the money, you'll be hard-pressed to find any of the Jag's German competiton which is as quick in a straight line. Simpler than many competitors, too, which is valuable.
Build Quality (vs. $)
Assembly quality appears quite high. Materials aren't quite as nice as the best Germans, but still show solid value.
Lacks the most recent and advaced features of some competitors, but still hits all the must-have targets.
A lot of car for the money.
Though it isn't miserly, the XF supercharged is truly efficient on the highway.
A 4-year/50,000-mile basic and powertrain warranty is average for the segment.
The XF comes with a 4-year/50,000-mile roadside assitance plan.
Fun To DriveSurprisingly fun. Ample motor. Overtaking is only a thought away. Good grip allows quick on-ramp transitions, too.
Fun and quick. We look forward to driving the XF every time we see the keys.
Unique styling combined with surprising power make this an excellent alternative to E-Class and 5 Series hot rods.
