I had a 3.0L, 2002, manual transmission that did the same under very heavy acceleration or deceleration off a four lane. Amber light would come on, no power , missing etc... I turn it off , set for 30 seconds, start up and run fine..Only did this once in a blue moon. Mostly when warmed up and hot.. Jaguar never found it.. My hunch is that it is a leaking seal ... I have a 2002 jaguar x-type 3.0. I dont know what to do. when i put it in reverse it jumps. when i put in in drive it jumps ever worse. i cant even drive it. i dropped the rear axel and checked the gears, nothing all looks good. anyone have suggestions. i have to try and do this myself nearest jag dealer is 200 miles away................HELP

I've had three Jags and never had a problem with the lug nuts. I suggest you never do business again with the idiot that over torqued them. On the 2 X Types I owned, I stood next to the guy mounting my wheels, and, made sure he used a correctly set torque wrench (not an air gun) to tighten my lug nuts. I can not believe how cheap Jaguar is by putting Steel lugnuts with a cheap tin plated cap over the lugnut making the wheels almost impossible to remove without a air gun. I would only buy a used Jaguar from an authorized dealer and it would have to have Jaguar's Select Edition warranty. Not some third party warranty either. She will have to pay more but it will be worth it for the piece of mind and the monetary protection. The Select Edition warranty was the top rated manufacturers extended warranty in several surveys. I feel your pain! I just had to replace my transmission because the mounting bolts had backed out causing the converter seal to break. This in turn, caused the transmission to be replaced. I was in the automotive repair business for eight years and never heard of bolts backing out. The car was taken to the Jaguar dealer for all scheduled maintance and warranty repairs. 5,000 miles after the warranty expired, ... Read More

The humming noise or "infamous" Jaguar whine happens to many x-type vehicles. If the whine gets louder when the temperature drops then it is most likely the same problem I am having. Jaguar says that is the center set of ball bearings which connects the front 1/2 of the drive shaft to the rear 1/2. They have ordered a new ball bearing set and are installing it in a few weeks. ... I suggested Jaguar extend my warranty for the transmission "just in case", but they wouldn't. Even the Jag rep said he wouldn't be happy if his new car made this noise. There have been a number of problems with non-manufacturer backed warranties, although I have heard that Warranty Direct is reasonably reputable. Actually, I have seen many younger women (in their 40s) driving a Jaguar, especially X-Type. You definitely would not look silly! I would prefer to use words such as elegant, stylish and sophisticated. If you were to drive an XJ8, that could be an overkill, but X-Type is perfect for a younger person IMHO (I am 32). Extended Warrenties
I just purchased a 2002 Jaguar xtype and was wondering if I should purchase an extended warrenty. I've looked online and was quoted coverages ranging from $2,000-$3,500. Most of them need 30% down with 10 monthly payments thereafter, so thats roughly $500-$1000 down. Are these warranties a must to have especially if you own a jag??

Well I've gone through 1 tank of 89 octane so far and no problems. The engine runs smooth and shifts smooth so I think I'll stay with 89. Also how do you get to the bulbs of the fog lights? I couldnt find how to do that in the manual. So is it unique to have a jaguar made in Europe verses here in the states?

We just bought 2004 X-type 3.0 Zircon color w/ premium package, heated seats, reverse park for $29,845 in Central NJ. Hope Jaguar fixed most of the earlier problems with the X-type. ...the new 2004 X-type 3.0 liters have a $2975 price decrease on them, but now include over $2000 in more standard equipment such as the power sunroof, split-folding rear seats, and the wood-rim steering wheel! I understand YOUR build quality issues. But, the rest of us do not "have to understand" that there is poor build quality overall. My car 3.0 2002 which is now about 18 months old has had absolutely no problems other than the leaky washer jets which were fixed at the first service. there are already 14 tsbs out on the 2002 es300. most are minor issues, much like the x-type issues. the notion that the es300 has less though is absurd. there are 6 tsbs for the x-type. the tsbs for the x-type cover everything people have complained about except the washer nozzle issue, with that there are 7 problems. still half that of the es300, and i'm not counting issues that lexus ... Titanium
I spoke with Jaguar Customer relationship Center this morning and they did not know anything about Titanium being discontinued. They said Titanium is still shown as a color on the 2002 X-Type. Hopefully this is all just a false rumor.

I do not have relavent comparison info for the A4 mabye Audi offers this information on their web site. Incidentally Jaguar has released cars for test driving to PA dealers. I do not know about other states, but if you live in PA call your local dealer they should have cars that you can drive.
