The plastic water bottle (whatever they call it - the reserve tank) get small hair line fractures and once the car gets up to temp the cracks screw up the pressure.     i have a 3.0 wich its still over heating.the mechanic replaced the thermostat but nothing.later he runs the car and sees that is overheating and the fan does not turn on so i will have to replace the fan. expect to pay around $600 for a new fan!

    I believe you may be talking about the heater valve which opens and allows water to flow into the heater core, its probably vac operated. You will have to ask a mechanic. Should be cheap and easy. They gum up on all cars after awhile. I'm saying this because your air still works, its just your heat. The valve is only partially open.

    nwjag, The Climate Control Module has a tendency to burn out, but it is not due to the act of replacing the heater valve. The burn out is most likely caused by too much current / power draw from the old/defective heater valve (which is wired directly to the Climate Control Module).     that would depend on whether one pipe is on one side of the valve and the other pipe on the other side.     lol.. I thought the same thing. They stated the climate control module was burnt out due to the replacement of the heater valve. Therefore, while replacing the heater valve it has the tendence of shooting out the climate control module. As per the Assistant Service Manager.

    Mr. Shiftright, Thanks for all your help. I check the pump, its in working order.. I went back to Jag this morning, they stated once the heater valve was replaced, the car burns the climate control panel. So I'm looking at $1800+ for repairs.

    Can you bench test that pump? If it were inoperative, i wonder if it would block all or most coolant flow.

    Thanks Mr. Shiftright. I took the auxiliary water pump off then it worked. Once the car got hot, it started blowing hot air.. You think it might be the auxiliary water pump?

    I don't have the complete diagram for this HVAC system but this situation sounds like a possible defect in an actuator that opens and closes a blending door under the dash. Some systems are electric actuators, some vacuum. The vacuum ones tend to have these mysterious tendencies, since a small leak can slowly open or close an actuator or the door it controls.

    I have a 2004 and I'm having the same problems. The heater valve has been charged but still not getting cold air on both sides. Every time I take everything part and put back, it works for a bit then hot air returns on the passenger side. Please Help!! could it be the auxiliary water pump?

    It's below the receiver/dryer for the AC. It has 5 ports so it should be easy to spot. The part is $285 retail and the labor rate is 2 hours for a mechanic. Coolant extra of course, as would be clamps, hoses, whatever.

    Few if any V8 S-Types have made it to 87K miles without the cooling system failing and thus the aluminum motor being ruined = $14K to replace to the owner - never Jaguar Ltd.!     I believe the newer S-Types would have the same problem if the motor is made of aluminum and there is any plastic in the cooling system = 1 overheat and the motor is ruined.     My 2000 S-Type just had an engine light at 76,000 and it was leaky gaskets for the (plastic) intake manifold. Replaced the gaskets and it's fine.

    I own a 2000 Jaguar S-type, and I think mine is doing the same thing. Sometimes I get a little warm (I mean a little) air if I put the heat on high and leave the level low, but it I raise the level the air gets cold. This just started as the weather got colder.

    Deadstype: I find your situation a bit difficult to fully comprehend. Several points: I can certainly believe that a blown engine at 29,000 miles is frustrating. In any car. And yet, the 2001 Jag warrantee was for 4 years (as I recall, or 50,000 miles, whichever comes first). Not 5 years. Or 6. Or 7.
