My 2001 Trooper 4wd Auto V6 has a problem when it accelerates below 50 mph, it seems to "miss" and jerk almost like it can't get traction. When I reach a certain speed, it is OK. Did a diagnostic too when the CEL came on for no apparent reason. My 99 only has 129400 on it. The result was the EGR sensor/valve. Now, I feel like the issue was oil since my engine has now locked up. If only I'd known the a couple of quarts would've alleviated the problem. It would help if the OIL LIGHT actually did its job and came on when it was low. (Disgusted!) Read More...

Well, I am no expert, and I am assuming you have a 3.5L trooper, which is the same basic design as the troopers from 93 up, with some minor changes along the way. Any mechanic that tells you "camshaft gear" has no idea what he is telling you. There are several "gears" in the cam timing mechanism and your problem sounds electrical to me. While sevicing the transmission, i noticed a large round metal weight about 7 inches in diameter on one of the crossbeams under the car. it does not appear to serve any purpose and is not in the service manual. any idea what it is for. bolted to the cross beam on passenger (right) side, it is not for a coil spring nor have any wires attached. I have a 2001 Isuzu trooper with 140k on this transmission. This is the second factory transmission as the first went out under warranty at 95K. This one out of the blue, takes off very slow in drive, 1st, 2nd. but takes off fine in Reverse and thhe lowest gear. This exact same thing started happening to my 2001. I had AAA tow it to my local AAMCO and it turns out there is metal in the fluid. They said 3rd and drive was completely gone. I approved them to go ahead and drop the transmission and go to work. If they totally rebuild it the cost is $1451.00. AAMCO is about the only people I will trust as there is no longer and Isuzu dealership ... Read More...
