I would be curious to know if the wiring harness was truly the issue. Although solid wiring would benefit the overall performance I would think that this fix would be temporary at best. Stalling issues are famous for the 99-02 Troopers, and are directly attributed to the Intake manifold gasket assembly. I cant remember the codes. Just take it to an isuzu dealership and the will have the info you need. Yes it runs atop the engine. It is a bundle of wires(part #8-97148-639-8-Costs $413.46, paid $330 from Seekonk Isuzu 401-434-6985) that comes of your fuse box inside the engine and spiders out throughout every sensor/electrical device under the hood. It was a bad wiring harness. Somewhere in the bundle that runs across the top of the engine the wire shorted out. A common problem on this vehicle. Hi, if the solenoid is basically a magnet that is energised by the battery when the ignition switch is turned to start. Hi, thought you would be interested in knowing exactly how Isuzu says a tranny should be flushed. Note that there is a flow test that you could ask the dealer if they performed. Is $595 a reasonable cost for 30,000 mile service on a 1999 Isuzu Trooper?
None of the following vehicles have used synthetic oil: 1983 Mercedes - 34,000 miles 1999 Isuzu Trooper - 35,000 miles 1999 Toyota Sienna - 49,000 miles Again, all appear to be mechanically ok but have never used synthetic oil. Would you go with say Mobil-1 in all of these? Also, is Mobil-1 synthetic really a better oil as far as elimination of oil sludge buildup? Also - synthetic in an 18hp ... Read More
Does the 1999 Trooper have the Locking Differential or the Limited Slip Differential? After reading post #3058 at the GMC Envoy site it mentions the G80 Differential and I believe that is the code number for the Isuzu Differential being used in my truck. I believe I would perfer the locking over the limited slip. At the GMC site Eaton has a nice explanation on how each Diff operates. Happy New Year ... Read More
I can attest that my 1999 Trooper has been trouble free for the first 30,000 miles. Check out my website at www.Isuzu.8k.com - I have a spreadsheet of expenses I incurred the first 25,000 miles. (This website is down this afternoon because the hosting service is having a problem.)
I paid $212 for the 15K plus 22.5K service. See: http://www.isuzu.8k.com/First-25k-miles.htm which details my expenses with a 1999 Trooper for the first 25,000 miles.
I agree. What I read said that the Trooper may have a V8 to distinguish it, but that the V8 would only have a few more HP than the new 270HP 6 that GM is putting out? I hope to have my 1999 for several years, maybe they will bring back an original (i.e. non-GM, world production vehicle) back by the time I am ready to upgrade. I think if Isuzu ... Read More
I paid $25,900 for my 1999 trooper with performance pkg, lux pkg, isuzu hitch, multimeter, moonroof, etc., in August 2000. Had 7800 miles on it, but was in *perfect* condition. Isuzu Rep driven, so the title said *new*. Bank gave me the *new* car financing rate (7% at the time). No regrets. Phil

sdc2 - your comment about seats in the Trooper "S" reminded me when I was looking at the Troopers. The newer Troopers always caught my eye and I remembered how tough they were as I had a 1989 older Trooper. I went to the Isuzu dealer and test drove a white "S" Trooper and immediately sensed that I could not live with the seat not having an armrest. I walked away ... Read More
If you are planning on a 2000 mile trip and you have a choice of the Toyota Sienna or the Isuzu Trooper, my advise is to take the Sienna if you don't plan any off road activities. My wife has a 1999 Sienna and I have a 1999 Trooper and we always take the Sienna on long road trips. Recently we drove from NC to South Florida in the Sienna and ... Read More
I created a spreadsheet of the operating costs of my 1999 Isuzu Trooper over it's first 25,000 miles. I was surprised that my fuel economy averaged 17mpg, and many times its range exceeded 350 miles before refueling. Well, at least I found the data interesting. http://www.isuzu.8k.com/First-25k-miles.htm
Having did my own Superwinch install, and not being a wrench-head, it would seem to me that any decent shop could EASILY do this install. That being said someone on another site recently had such an install done and reported some oil or grease seepage from the new hub. Suggestions ranged from the shop having messed up the Superwinch gaskets, to not using RTV, to too much oil added during the ... Read More
The Superwinch part # is 400533. The instruction sheet says the hubs fit the 1990 Trooper II with Auto Hubs (that's correct - 1990). My Trooper is a 1999 w/TOD. They work great on mine. Perhaps the front end parts haven't changed much in 10+ years. Isuzu is known for that - keeping a design for a long time if it works.
.... if you can wait until around September you should be able to get that Trooper right. Then, it will be near the end of the model year and Isuzu in the past had put out $6,000 off MSRP. I got my 1999 Trooper Luxury (same as Limited) for under $29K in the fall of 1999. In any case, the Trooper is a nice truck and you will enjoy it no ... Read More

Just checked still there and it has been there for over a month. The wording was changed. as above. Maybe the $15k was a typo. but still a good deal at $19k. I ended up getting my Trooper at Robertschevyisuzu.com a local dealer on LongIsland, NY. I noticed other people getting much ... Read More
I have a 1999 Trooper and I want/need to purchase new tires. Has anybody tried to install 265/70/16 instead of the 245/70/16? Can it be done and do the tires rub. I am looking for a little lift and a softer ride. Any ideas will be helpful.
Thanks for the info. I have found a couple of dealers with used 99 and 2k for between $17k to $25k depending on the model. I found two 2k S for $17k in West NY and one nice Lux(Limited) model 1999 in MD for $19k. The approx. miles range from 10k to 25k on the Troopers. Both dealers are 200+ miles away from me but I think I will decide this ... Read More
