Rodeo and Passport - frame rust causing accidents

To all the people posting on this site, have any of you been reading or are any of you aware of the issues with the Rodeo and Passport vehicles? The rear driver's side torque bar rusts off and causes accidents or near accidents. There is currently a federal investigation in the process with the hopeful outcome being a recall. Well, I had the same issue and I was told that my tranny was overheated. Which I found strange, because the AT temp light never came up. Eventually I had to have it replaced and I added an external cooler. The one built in the radiator was clogged. So far so good. My 2002 Isuzu Rodeo V6 RWD will not shift out of 1st gear and will not go over 15MPH. It will go into reverse without any problems. Before the transmission got locked like it is now, I was experiencing some rough shifting when going from 1st to 2nd gear. I do not have access to our warranty booklet, but I have not heard of a warranty that is not transferable. A non-transferable warranty does nothing for resale value. Check your booklet or the Isuzu internet site, it used to have the warranties posted for each year. Well we change every 5 months or 5 thousands miles regularly and that has always been fine. Sometimes I go with the miles rather than the time especially since we travel (we are in the military and sometimes the car sits for a while). This last time we had it changed the end of January. Isuzu engines tend to use some oil between changes. What was your change interval? If you did not check the oil level between changes you really have no way of knowing if it used the oil or if the last change was not filled completely. I think many 'experts' recommend checking you oil every fill-up or at least on a regular basis, perhap 500-1000 miles. So, if it took ... Read More...

My guess is sludge. Also, our 2001 Rodeo had a 10 year, 100k mile powertrain warranty. The engine was replaced 2 years ago at 80k miles, but we were able to document it was properly maintained. Read More...
