i have the same problem with my 1998 Amigo but i am stumped i thought that it was a wiring problem going to the ECM but tried to bypass but did not work any ideas out there.
If not for all of us "whining babies" who have fought Honda and Isuzu for years, written letters, posted on the internet, shared info, posted forms for others to copy and fill out, and all that we have done so that non-whining babies like you could recoup your losses on these vehicles, where would you be today in regards to your vehicle? And then you, who probably has sat on your ... Read More
On a 1998 Isuzu Rodeo 6 cylinder-Automatic Is the Range Sensor the same as a Nuetral Safety switch? And were is it located? also Were is the Transmision Mode Switch located? Thank You!
I own a 1998 Isuzu Rodeo, 6 cyl. automatic. I'ts been a great car! Recently it has developed a HARD SHIFT problem. It does not happen all the time. Only when I have a little problem starting the car, after i'ts been off for a while. When it starts shifting hard I need to shut the car off then re-start and it will go away. I had the transmission re-built, but ... Read More
Hi, I am an owner of a 1998 Isuzu Rodeo. I am wondering if you have had any issues with your ABS? My ABS light has been on intermittently since 2004. I found out recently that there had been a recall notice in 2003 to replace the ABS Integrated Coil Module on 1998 and 1999 Rodeos... but only in the United States. I was told by Transport Canada that a recall ... Read More
Have you filed with Isuzu? And have you received your letter in the mail concerning the recall? You need to file with Isuzu and NHTSA concerning your vehicle, and once you get your recall letter, take it to your local dealer who handles Isuzu's. Take your receipts for the welding, you probably will get reimbursed, good luck!
I would like Honda to buy back my Passport for what we paid for it...the ridiculous amount of $28,000 brand new back in 1998. Of course, we were getting a HONDA (so we thought) 4 wheel drive, all options, excellent reviews back then. We have had issues over the years, 4 fuel pumps, alternator x 2, brand new wheel blow out at 200 miles (we had to pay for the replacement), ... Read More
Thanks for sharing, first time I have seen this broadcast. I am in the broadcast, from Kentucky. My Passport is the one raised behind me, as my husband and son replaced the frame with a rust free one from a 1998 2 wheel drive Rodeo. It seems that the 2 wheel drives are not affected by the rust, only the 4x4's, for whatever reason, I don't know. As everyone knows by ... Read More
I have a 1998 rodeo that I had to have part of the frame replaced for inspection which cost me $1400. now 3 months later I have another major problem. Just checked recalls and finally Isuzu is in the process of recalling my vehicle. So those of you who have the same problem, check out Isuzu recalls and call them to register your vehicle. They hope to have the problem solved ... Read More
any hint how to change 1998 Isuzu Rodeo manifold gasket
1998 Isuzu Truck Rodeo 2WD 2.2L MFI DOHC 4cyl. Replaced the intake manifold gasket and cleaned the throttle body, replace engine vacuum lines. There are no leaks. But, on start up If the brake pedal is depressed the idle speed increases but after driviing around for a while when the brake is applied the idle speed is noraml. What could be the cause of this probelm? Any solution?

I have a 1998 - engine replaced at 75,000 miles - I would NEVER AGAIN spend that much money on an Isuzu. Parts will get harder to find since they are pulling out of the US.
I have heard a lot about this over the last 5 years or so and this problem seems to be common in the newer models (1998 & Up). I do have and drive a 1992 Rodeo 4x4 V6 LS and when I first heard about this I was greatly concerned & had a look under mine in 2005. Ny frame was in excellent condition w/no corrosion to this day (I just ... Read More

So my Isuzu Rodeo is a 1998 4x4 6 cylinder 3.2L LS. The Speedometer works occasionally, but then also fluxuates when driving. Sometimes it stays on zero the whole time and sometimes it says I'm going only 20 mph on a highway that I'm obviously going atleast 60 on. I was told it might be the speed sensor, but I'm skeptical on this. Here's more info on the car. The ABS ... Read More
Hi Rodeorot, I am with you. I have done all that you have done, the certified letter to Derek Rinehardt, the NTHSA notification and opened a case with them. Contacted Honda, opened a case with them (as helpful as Isuzu, which was not at all). Let me know what else you need. I kept a folder of all the Car Complaints and Auto Beef posts that took place before I found ... Read More
I spoke with Derek in Novenber, and he told me they were either going to drop the investigation if they felt there was not a significant number of complaints, or they would escalate it to an engineering analysis. I'm not holding my breath waiting for a recall or settlement, but it's good to see that it has been upgraded to an engineering analysis. My 2001 Rudeo had the same problem this ... Read More
To all the people posting on this site, have any of you been reading or are any of you aware of the issues with the Rodeo and Passport vehicles? The rear driver's side torque bar rusts off and causes accidents or near accidents. There is currently a federal investigation in the process with the hopeful outcome being a recall. This covers vehicles from 1995 to 2002. Go to Edmunds.com forum and ... Read More

I think that you have to press the unlock button on your remote twice. Pressing it once just unlocks the driver's side only. Pressing the button a second time opens the remaining doors. This is how it is programmed on our 2001 Rodeo. Good Luck!

Any suggestions on replacing the car alarm remote on my isuzu Rodeo 1998.
Whenever transmission problems arise, you should have the transmission fluid flushed as a precaution. The Isuzu transmissions are very sensitive to voltage. So, make sure your battery and alternator are in perfect shape. Cheap rebuilt alternators from local parts stores have been known to trigger the transmission light on these vehicles. Also, check serpentine belt tension. If you have installed car stereo amps that draw lots of current, then remove it ... Read More
Oleg- You don't see a whole lot of information out there on the 1998-2003 rodeo 2.2L. This engine is actually a GM/Daewoo/Holden derivative. The same engine is in the Daewoo Leganza. Isuzu did put out a TSB that the timing belt on the 2.2L should be replaced every 60Kmi due to early failures. They are an interference engine. The only other issue I've heard of with this engine is a faulty ... Read More

No doubt about it, MSRP's were really shocking up to 2003. Plus isuzu didnt really advertise the huge factory to dealer rebates for 2002 either (isnt that surprising!) I have noted for the last 1 year that when I apply brakes on hitting a pothole or suddenly, the SUV doesnot stop abruptly (like my other car with out anti-lock brakes).
