I just went through the same thing. My trans was toast. Would not shift into 3rd gear either. I did know it was failing though because it was slipping for several thousand miles. Do not take it to an Isuzu dealer. The trans alone there was $5,500--don't forget the extra cost for labor. I called around and got prices for a trans rebuild/replace in my area. The prices I got were ... Read More

I have a 2002 Axiom and had transmission problems that resulted in Isuzu changing my transmission at their expense. When I picked up the vehicle the speedometer did not work. That problem also created a check engine light. The heading indicator also did not work even tho the satellite indicator showed I had satellite reception. I quickly turned around and told the maintenance supervisor. He took the car back and after ... Read More
No. It would likely be a dealer item, unless you bought a used set, which would be a bad idea. Here's why: the ISC shocks on the Axiom were a flawed design that combined electronic actuators mounted to specialty shocks and a computer system that inflated the bladder device in the electronic actuator to absorb shock. In theory, it was great, but it worked horribly, because the design engineers at Isuzu ... Read More

I own a copy of the 2002 Workshop/Service Manual and I looked up the DTC codes you list, and it took me to a troubleshooting chart. This troubleshooting info actually gives the same solution twice in the manual, so it sounds like your mechanic is right on the mark, and is ... Read More
Hello. My isuzu axiom 2002 just lost power with the check engine and reduced power lights coming on. My dealer said that it showed the following error codes: P1125, P1221, P1515 and P1295. There is no such recall, although many of us on this forum would agree that perhaps there should be one! I experienced problems with mine at 40K miles that were covered under the 120,000 mile powertrain warranty. Bert's tranny failed at 108K and was replaced under that same warranty. But, if you are not the original owner, you are up a creek with no paddle. Still, if maintained zealously- if you ... Read More

The only service was the pressure modulator seal and that was repaired at no cost. It was sort of a Isuzu transmission recall. After changing the shocks and tires I've finally enjoyed driving the car and it has always ... Read More

My brake noise problems continued. But, when chatting with a counter clerk at the local Carquest parts store, he suggested I get rid of the Advanced (formerly Discount Auto) Parts aftermarket brake pads that I was using (which were making lots of dust on my front wheels) and get Akebono pads, which have built in anti-squeal plates. Okay, here's the article: "The Isuzu Axiom was the award winner in its class, Most Significant Sport Utility Vehicle at the NAIAS. The 2002 Isuzu Axiom has a strong, solid look, that is highlighted by its large wheels and tires. The body side theme is simple and straightforward, with large wheel arches that extend from the body. The long wheelbase and high beltline, coupled with slim side glass, give the lower ... Read More
When I bought the Axiom it was a 2002 leftover, brandnew. I traded in my wife's 1994 Mitsubishi Diamante (2k trade-in), so I walked away with a price on the Ax of $20,100. If I were to just try to get the dealer to buy the truck back he offered me $17K (it had 609 miles on it), approximately what the dealer program purchase is for 2003 models, atleast that is ... I just bought a 2002 leftover Axiom, orginally I was about to buy a 2000 Rodeo, but when I found this puppy at a local dealer for 7500 off sticker. I jumped on it. Now to the issues: I love the truck, well built, solid and power. Oh, and I love the looks. Now to the bad: The rear suspension absoltely sucks, does a horrible job of smoothing out the bumps ... I'm new to this so if I don't use this board properly please let me know. I purchased a 2002 Axiom two weeks ago which was a dealer demo with 700 miles on it. I was very surprised after some driving how shaky and unsettled the suspension behaved. Vibration etc even on smooth roads. After the first week I returned to the dealer for some promised work on the car and ... Read More

Edmunds True Cost To Own looks very promising for the Axiom, even with Isuzu's poor and declining resale value. http://www.edmunds.com/new/2002/isuzu/axiom/xs4wd4drsuv35l6cyl4a/tco.html?id=lin0648#compare The TMV for the Axiom is far higher than people are even paying (same for the Trooper) so the overall value of Isuzu is likely even better than what Edmunds states.
Hello, 21Oct02 I've been reading this news group for over a year now. I've also wanted an Axiom the first time I saw it, before they went into production. Sorry everyone but I just need to do some venting here... This past Friday I tried my best to buy one for myself. Could not get the dealer to come down more then $800 off the sticker. I couldn't believe it! The ... Read More
Ok, by now all of us are expecting to see some oil consumption and we know it is necessary to check the stick every so often and be ready to add oil as necessary. I brought the oil consumption issue to my dealer and he said they got a memo, which shows normal oil consumption to be 1 quart per 3,000 miles. Perhaps it is normal for Isuzu, but should it ... I just stumbled across the recall for the Axiom in the scheduled maintenance section. I guess 15 vehicles are being recalled to have the driver side air bag replaced. All in all, the Axiom really didn't go through any growing pains for a first year model (granted many parts are from the trooper and rodeo) compared to other first year 2002 models. Only 1 recall and 13 very minor TSBs aren't ... Read More
Axiom Lovers: I have now successfully installed tubular side steps on my 2002 Isuzu Axiom, and I wanted to let everyone know how it went. From the moment I bought the vehicle I felt that it really needed a roof rack and side steps to really complement the looks of the vehicle, but there are no readily available side steps for the Axiom. This is not a currently available accessory. But, ... Read More
I own a new 2002 Axiom and bought a whole batch of accessories from partscheap.com. Got a great price on them. I have now installed several of these Axiom accessories and would like those of you who haven't to know how easy or difficult this can be. That is, some accessories were pretty easy to put in and others were fairly challenging, with less-than-perfect results. OK, let me give it to ... Read More
Our local paper had some 2002 Axiom 4wds,new, for 22,500 and Troopers for 23 or 24k. I assume they are base models, probably with no factory options, but the Axiom in base version has everything functionally and most luxury items standard. I don't know if these were totally new, demos or others. Just wondered what the going price seems to be. Has anyone driven there Axiom in snow yet? How does ... Read More
Paisan, you have just lost all the respect I had for you that you have built over the last 960 posts. I thought I was dealing with an experienced and respectful member, but it looks like I was wrong! Not everybody likes their potatoes mashed. I do not negate your preferences, rather express my disappointment with certain characteristics of the vehicle I own. I could find as many faults with any ... Read More
