What is RSS?

RSS (Really Simple Syndication) and Atom feeds are a way for publishers to deliver their content. You can subscribe to a feed to view details about news and information on Edmunds.com and Inside Line -- details including headlines, summaries, and links to full stories -- without having to check the website directly for the latest information. When you subscribe to a feed, it lets you know when content has been updated, so you quickly see what's been updated before visiting the site. You can also add the feed to your My Yahoo! homepage.

How Does it Work?

RSS and Atom feeds are XML-based documents and are not readable by an ordinary web browser. Feed "Aggregators" (also called "Readers") display feeds and alert you when a feed has been updated with new stories or information. There are many free and commercial Aggregators available. Some are "stand-alone" programs that run on your desktop, while other services allow you to add a feed to a special page you view through your internet browser (this is how the MyYahoo! subscription works).
