LAS VEGAS — Kumho has become the first company to launch a 15-series tire, showing off the low-profile rubber at the 2008 SEMA Show here. The Ecsta SPT KU3 comes in only one size, a 22-inch 385/15ZR. That makes the tire 15.2 inches wide with a sidewall height of just 2.3 inches.

Kumho says it designed the tire with cars like the Corvette Z06, Dodge Viper and Ferrari F430 in mind. The company claims that the tire has "semi-run-flat capability," remaining securely on the rim when pressure has been lost. Kumho has a history of producing obscure tire technologies; they're the people behind tires capable of releasing aromas and colored smoke.

Inside Line says: Don't be fooled. This tire is about style, not performance. — Eric Tingwall, Correspondent
