PARIS — BMW is teasing the upcoming debut of its Concept X1 at the 2008 Paris Auto Show with an Internet video that gives a glimpse of the car — and its contrived skateboarding-and-graffiti theme.
The video shows the Concept X1 rolling off a truck and into a garage. The majority of the crossover's body is shrouded in cloth camouflage, but the clearly visible greenhouse and wheels hint at the X1's styling. Meanwhile, a skater sprays the car's name on a wall, while phrases like "Spontaneous Mobility?" and "Cool Elegance?" appear. The video also foreshadows that the Concept X1 will probably appear in a bright yellow paint, not typical for a BMW.
BMW's X1 will be the company's smallest crossover and is expected to be on roads sometime in 2010.
What this means to you: Skateboards and graffiti may not have the underground appeal they once did, but that doesn't mean the X1 won't create some buzz with its debut. — Eric Tingwall, Correspondent
