What Is It?
2006 Ferrari F430
What's Special About It?
The F430 is a minor refresh of the 360 Modena that has captivated the hearts and minds of enthusiasts for years. Its subtle upgrades were designed to keep it at the top of its game in an increasingly competitive market that has seen a number of new competitors emerge in recent years. The most notable change comes in the form of a larger 4.3-liter V8 engine that bumps horsepower from 400 to 490. Also significant is the new engine's increased midrange torque that reduces the need for excessive engine speeds to summon usable power. A new electronic differential provides better power distribution while a revised Formula One gearbox offers quicker shifts. Optional ceramic disc brakes are also available. Mild changes to the bodywork include reshaped rear quarters and a large rear diffuser similar to that used on the flagship Enzo.
What's Edmunds' Take?
You don't have to do much to improve a car that's already one of the finest in the world in both its styling and its performance. The F430 addresses the minor shortcomings of its predecessor without straying too far from the formula that made it a success. If you're lucky enough to have driven both, the improvements will be much appreciated, but if you're like most folks it will be just another dream from the masters in Maranello. — Ed Hellwig
