2003 Detroit Auto Show

Following right on the heels of the L.A. show comes the granddaddy of them all — the North American International Auto Show or, as it's more commonly called, "the Detroit show." Yes, despite typically dreary skies and frigid weather, anyone who's anybody in the automotive world comes to the Motor City in January to see the latest and greatest the world's manufacturers have to offer.

This year certainly wasn't any different, as the Big Three, along with nearly every other manufacturer in the world, came through with plenty of intriguing concepts and some noteworthy production vehicles as well.

As far as concepts went, the biggest rumble emanated from Chrysler who roared into the spotlight with the Tomahawk, a four-wheeled motorcycle powered by a thundering V10 Viper engine. Ford had an equally jaw-dropping intro of the next Mustang along with a muscular SVT version of the 2004 F-150. GM brought back the "SS" moniker for one of its sedan concepts while Toyota resurrected the FJ40 for a peek into the future.

On the production side, Nissan showed off its all-new full-size truck, the Titan, along with fully redesigned versions of its Maxima sedan and Quest minivan. Chevrolet debuted three new upcoming models as well: a Malibu sedan, a Colorado midsize pickup and an Equinox compact sport-ute. If you're into high-performance sedans, you'll want to check out Subaru's upcoming Impreza WRX STi sedan as it debuted with more horsepower than anyone expected, along with numerous rally-inspired components for serious performance nuts.
