Cars for Bond

January 5, 1998 -- The big news for BMW at the NAIAS is the North American debut of the Z07 design study, which made its world debut in Tokyo this fall. BMW claims that the Z07 is the natural successor of 507 Roadster that appeared in limited numbers in the 1950s. While B MW may think that this car is the great grandchild of an old drop top Bimmer, we think that it looks much more like the descendant of an Italian father, say, a Ferrari 308 GT. Whatever the case, BMW seems very serious about the Z07, unwilling to discuss much about its chances for production, but smugly indicating that Porsche might be concerned about its potential introduction, as it would compete directly against the all-new 911. No technical specifications were released for the car, but BMW representa tive Victor Doolan indicated that its engine output would be around 440 horsepower.
