What is it?
2001 Mercedes-Benz C-Class Special Edition and Limited Edition SLK230 Kompressor
What's special about it?
For 2001, Mercedes-Benz is offering special packages for the already value-laden C-Class and SLK models that are nearing the end of their life cycles. The C-Class Special Edition comes in Brilliant Silver metallic (regularly a $610 option) and unique black/gray leather upholstery (normally a $1,325 option for a single tone). It also has a matching leather-wrapped steering wheel and shift knob, a glass sunroof, folding rear seats, power passenger seat, embossed stainless door sills and special floor mats. The deal also includes the sport package (normally $900) with stiffer springs, tauter shocks, 16-inch wheels and a telescoping steering column. If that isn't enough to whet your appetite, Mercedes also throws in the K2 package, which includes an integrated StarTAC digital phone and six-disc CD changer. While all these options would normally add $4,000 to $5,000 to the sticker, Mercedes is practically giving the options away at only $1,200 for the C230 Kompressor and $1,600 for the C280. With the Limited Edition SLK230, Mercedes-Benz is throwing in a host of goodies for free. They come dressed in Obsidian Black metallic paint and lined with Oyster/Charcoal two-tone leather. The no-cost option includes 17-inch EVO II-design alloy wheels, special badging, the K2 package and floor mats.
Why should you care?
Deals like this don't grow on trees, especially in Stuttgart. If you've always wanted to purchase a Mercedes but couldn't afford the extras, your time has come. And if you opt for the SLK230 Kompressor, you aren't even spending a dime for a limited edition -- Mercedes-Benz is picking up the tab.
