Test Driver Ratings & Comments
Acceleration commentsThe 5.6-liter in the QX56 produces enough torque to make the 5,600-pound vehicle feel quick. There's a noticeable, but not unpleasant, rumble from this drivetrain, and the transmission shifted consistently at 5,800 rpm (redline was 6,200 rpm). While torque is fairly flat across the rev range, the engine seemed to get a slight burst of energy at 4,000 rpm. Nothing dramatic (don't think Honda VTEC, for instance) but an undeniable burst nonetheless. This is a great engine for SUV (and full-size truck) duty.

Handling ratingExcellent
Handling commentsThe steering on the QX56 (and Nissan Titan) is what makes this undeniably large SUV feel secure and confident. Body roll is about what you'd expect for such a tall, heavy vehicle, but responsive and properly-weighted steering can make a world of difference in how a big truck feels. In the case of the QX56 is made the vehicle relatively easy to thread between the cones, despite its size. Leaving the SUV in second gear provided plenty of oomph for exiting the slalom under power, though I had to disable the stability control system to keep it from interfering. The Infiniti was well behaved at the limit, with no abrupt weight transfers or loss of traction.
