Hey there...I went ahead and replaced the IACV and my car drove beautifully for three weeks. But sadly this past weekend, she started stalling and running rough and lurching again. I was SO bummed out. I believe my previous IACV burned up my ECM circuit board (this only happens in the 1996 model, which is the first year the ODB was introduced...subsequent models have a fail safe that prevents burning up ... Hey there, When you say that you replaced the computer, do you mean the ECM? I think my ECM circuit board has damage from a faulty Idle air control valve, and I was wondering how you handled changing out the computer. Is is super expensive? Did you get a re-manufactured ECM or did you order the part from infiniti? My vehicle is a 1996 I-30 and she keeps stalling on me ... Read More

I have an 1996 Infiniti I30 and yesterday it ran rough and would not start. I pulled the maf off and there was a lot of oil in the manifold. I checked the oil dipstick and the oil does not look milky but the oil level seems to be more than normal. My son said he did not notice any warning lights. He did say that it sounded louder than normal. ... Read More

Update. Ever since cleaning the maf sensor with the crc maf sensor cleaner, my car has never ran this good. After spending nearly 2800.00 on repairs it took a 7.00 spray cleaner to fix the problem. Unbelievable! My next tank of gas I am going to add the Seafoam additive. Thanks again.

Somewhere along the line somebody recommended cleaning the maf with some crc maf sensor cleaner. I purchased a can from autozone and tried it. At first it ran rough and the check engine light came on. The more I ran it, the betteq it got. Now it runs like a champ. Is a 1996 Infiniti I30 the same as a Nissan Maxima? If there are differences, what are they? And which would car (I30 or Maxima) be preferable, given all things being equal like year and mileage? I am thinking about both reliability and cost to own (repair, insurance, gas).

Would I need to take it to a Infiniti dealer for repair service, or would any mechanic be okay? Does this car take regular unleaded or premium gas? And what are the insurance costs like?
