I just bought an Infinity I30 1996. The old car works fine until I hit the brake to stop slowly in some neighborhood areas. The car turn itself off. I have to keep trying to start it for 15 to 20 minutes and then the car will turn on again. The car will run smooth until the next afternoon. The same thing happen again. This occured almost everyday for the past ... Read More
Hey there...I went ahead and replaced the IACV and my car drove beautifully for three weeks. But sadly this past weekend, she started stalling and running rough and lurching again. I was SO bummed out. I believe my previous IACV burned up my ECM circuit board (this only happens in the 1996 model, which is the first year the ODB was introduced...subsequent models have a fail safe that prevents burning up ... Hey there, When you say that you replaced the computer, do you mean the ECM? I think my ECM circuit board has damage from a faulty Idle air control valve, and I was wondering how you handled changing out the computer. Is is super expensive? Did you get a re-manufactured ECM or did you order the part from infiniti? My vehicle is a 1996 I-30 and she keeps stalling on me ... Read More
I have an 1996 Infiniti I30 and yesterday it ran rough and would not start. I pulled the maf off and there was a lot of oil in the manifold. I checked the oil dipstick and the oil does not look milky but the oil level seems to be more than normal. My son said he did not notice any warning lights. He did say that it sounded louder than normal. ... Read More
Is a 1996 Infiniti I30 the same as a Nissan Maxima? If there are differences, what are they? And which would car (I30 or Maxima) be preferable, given all things being equal like year and mileage? I am thinking about both reliability and cost to own (repair, insurance, gas).
I am thinking about buying a used 1996 Infiniti I30 sedan. What are the repair/maintenance costs on this car like? Would I need to take it to a Infiniti dealer for repair service, or would any mechanic be okay? Does this car take regular unleaded or premium gas? And what are the insurance costs like?
I have replaced the alternator and the battery. And the battery still won't stay charged. Has anyone had this problem and know the solution?? My car has been down since November and I have no idea but I need to get it fixed! asap!! Thanks
Good news everyone. I have followed and advice from one of the reply to another post and fixed my problem too by replacing the IGNITION SWITCH and this fixed my problem.. this might be a regular failure on this model 1996 Infinity I30. so for anyone whom has a problem with starting and no crank? check the ignition switch first. Its very easy to do. and its very cheap $27.00 at ... Read More
I love this car I've had it for over 6 years and it has a 130k miles on it. I'm not the biggest car expert I've slowly been learning here is my problem. The belts on my car kept snapping which always caused the battery to die. When I start up the car from a cold start it would always screech loudly. The car would also screech when I put on ... I have a 1996 Infiniti I30, and lately starting up is a hassle. Sometimes I'll turn the key and once I hear the engine turning over I have to step on the gas pedal to keep it from shutting off. Other times I have to keep trying turning the key as it won't even turn over, then still step on the gas to have it turn on. The lights and radio ... Read More
I have a 1996 infinity I30. When I accelerate the engine feels like it hesitates and I hear a bit of a backfire. At idle, it feels rough. Once I get up to speed, it runs great. I have a 116,000 on it. Can anyone steer me in the right direction as far as what I need to start looking at? The check engine is not on. Any help would be ... Read More
My 1996 I30 stalls in traffic or at a stop light when idle. It also stalls at night when I try to start up the car. The RPM needle would just bottom out. Usually when it stalls it's already at the normal temp and my RPM needle would be around 550 or 600 and stall when it hits 500 RPM. I took it into the Infiniti dealership and they adjusted my ... HI, I have a 1996 Infiniti I30, I have been having problems with my Infiniti. I got some bad gas and I have since put 93 grade in and a gas treatment and moisture treatment, I have had my fuel injectors cleaned and a new battery. I have been experiencing pinging and my car will start then it loses power and stalls. I have to let my car "warm up" for ... Read More

Hi lyn1, I didn't find the answer. But I have few observations, It is stopping when I am driving at low speeds especially in traffic or when I was stopping for a stop sign. I feel transmission is cuasing this problem. All the times it got stopped when I observed jerks in acceleration. One more interesting observation is it is happening when there is sudden drop in temperature. Is sudden drop ... Read More

I have 119000 miles on my Infiniti I30. The problem I have is the car engine completely dies at lower speed or when I stop in traffic or light. When it dies, I get Check Engine light, Oil Lamp light, Battery light and Break light illuminates on dashboard. If I try to restart right away, the engine start and dies immediately. Usually I have to wait for around 30 seconds or ... Read More

I am about to get a 1996 Infiniti I30 with 130,000 miles. What should I do if I want the car to have the nice ride it had originally?
I spoke with a guy who is selling his I30 with 135,000 miles for $4900. He said he has taken very good care of the car (we will see). Are Infinitys that reliable? Are they similar to Honda/Toyota where you can put 200,000 miles on the car without major problems?
Fred, The 2000 G20 is driven about 90% by my wife, and only about 7000 miles per year. In my opinion, the 4 cylinder 145 HP engine in completely adequate for this car (we have automatic). When I do drive it, I am amazed at how effortless it is to accelerate to desired speeds, highway or city. It is extremely quiet even cruising at 85 MPH. Great Bose sound system. We ... Read More
Congrats on getting the low mileage '98 I30t for $17650. Based on personal experience with the following 6 Nissans/Infinitis since 1991, I would recommend you not spend the $1000-$1100 for an extended warranty. My total non-routine maintenance out-of-warranty expenses: 1991 Maxima GXE (65K): 0 1993 Infiniti G20 (70K): $400 fuel injector 1996 Maxima GLE (70K): 0 2000 Infiniti I30 (31K): 0 2000 Infiniti G20 (8K): 0 (wife's current car) 2002 Infiniti ... See if you can find 2000 I30 program cars coming off lease. I understand Infiniti of Lisle (Chicago) are paying $18,250 which means you could probably buy one for around $19-$20K depending how good you negotiate. Don't know where you are located, but would guess Infiniti dealers in your area may have similar deals. Big difference in 2000/2001 I30's as opposed to 1996-1999. I think you would be much better off ... Read More

Hi all After a strenous research for a good used car(mainly Japan, esp. Camry), I finally bought a 1996 I30 with 76400 miles on it for 10775. I would really like to know what ... Read More
There have been several posts inquiring about a 1996 I30. I have a '96 I 30 that I bought new. It has been a great car. No mechanical problems other than the radio went dead from some burnt out part, but I had that fixed and it works fine. $13,900 for one with $75,000 miles is way too much money for that car. The car came with a six year or ... Read More
Hi everyone I just purchased a 1996 I30, and was wondering if anyone has had any dealings with this dealership's service dept, or can recommend a good dealership in the iowa or Ill area. Thanks
Folks...I was looking on the internet, and came across "Grubb's Infiniti" dealership, I guess its in Texas. The website says they are the largest Infiniti dealership in the nation. So i went to their service page, and emailed their service people about my problem, and if they have heard of it before (again, since my service dept. doesnt think there is a problem with my car). I was surprised to get ... Read More
