EDITORS' RATINGS OVERALL SCORE:

Overall

RATING

One of the best entry-level sport sedans on the market. Rapid, comfortable, capable -- does the Jekyll and Hyde thing very convincingly.

DETAILED EDITORS' RATINGS

Dynamics

RATING

Acceleration is at the top of its class with the BMW 335i. Seven-speed automatic is intelligent and adaptive and gets the nod over the less-slick manual transmission. Extremely capable handler, but don't bother opting for the four-wheel active steering. Fun and fast.

Comfort

RATING

Excellent seats and a firm ride quality that never beats you up. Not especially spacious-feeling -- it is intimate inside. Noise has been tamped out well. Backseat headroom is adequate but not outstanding.

Function

RATING

Simple climate control interface is a plus. Nooks for items aren't quite as plentiful as, say, in the Acura TL. Controls are logically laid out and easy to use.

Design/Build Quality

RATING

The interior styling appears a bit dated next to its contemporaries, and its dashboard is necessarily closer to the front-seat occupants (due to the touchscreen multimedia interface). Still, it is a high-quality execution and has no real missteps.

DETAILED PROFILE:

High Performer Puts the "sport" in sport sedan. Fast and capable. Rear-wheel-drive handling dynamics are still a recipe for success.

Comfortable Though not the most spacious front-seat space in its class, the G37 rides well and has great seat comfort.

Luxurious Never lacking in gadgets, the G treats you well.
