EDITORS' RATINGS OVERALL SCORE:

Overall

RATING

The new Infiniti G37 is a very well-balanced automobile. It's fast, handles very well, has a interior that is both comfortable and attractive, and it's built well.

DETAILED EDITORS' RATINGS

Dynamics

RATING

Very good handling and braking. Steering is accurate and precise, but lacks a bit of delicate feel. This car goes well on a sinuous racetrack or cruising for hours on end on the highway. The new 3.7-liter V6 delivers strong performance throughout the rev range. Taken all together, this car is fun when pushed but not high-strung at other times. The optional four-wheel active-steer option dulls the performance edge somewhat.

Comfort

RATING

The driving position is very good. Seats and steering column can be adapted to just about anybody. Six-foot-plus drivers will find enough headroom. As with most coupes of this type, large adults will not fit well in the rear. Wind and road noise are subdued, and the ride is well-damped on all but the most broken surfaces.

Function

RATING

Infiniti has manged to do something the premium German marques have not: offer a lot of techical and electronic features, yet keep the interface simple, attractive and easy to use. This intuitive sense permeates all of the onboard controls. Outward visibility is good, and an optional rear-vision camera is available. Trunk space is moderate. A trunk-mounted rear seatback release allows easy expansion.

Design/Build Quality

RATING

The G37's very attractive and harmonious exterior design shows a lot of attention to detail. Some current owners might not immediately embrace its more voluptuous and less muscular shape. Inside, the G37 is top-notch. Not only is the interor attractively designed, the materials used are first-class. Assembly quality, inside and out, is impressive.

DETAILED PROFILE:

High Performer With the new 3.7-liter V6 engine and a very capable chassis, Infiniti's new G37 performs well on the street and at the track.

Luxurious The G37's interior features excellent materials and craftsmanship (leather is standard) and a plethora of high-end features. It looks great, too.

Image Enhancer The old G35 coupe was a real head-turner that found its way into many upscale driveways. This G37 coupe delivers more of the same.
