Review of the 2002 Hyundai XG350

  • If you'd like to break away from the mainstream and save a couple of bucks doing it, the XG350 is worth a look. However, the mainstream is the mainstream for a reason...

  • Safety
  • Pros

Lots of standard equipment, decent power, roomy cabin.

  • Cons

Funky home-market styling, low expected resale value.

  • What's New for 2002

The XG300 becomes the XG350, as engine displacement is bumped up 0.5 liters to 3.5. Although horsepower is only increased by 2 to 194, 39 more pound-feet is on tap for a grand total of 217, which should provide quicker acceleration.

Vehicle: 2002 Hyundai XG350 4dr Sedan (3.5L 6cyl 5A)

We were looking for a new car with a good warranty. My wife fell in love with this car and that was it. The 60000 mile or 5 year warranty and 100000 mile drive train warranty were major reasons for purchase. I have received numerous compliments about this car. It is a very comfortable ride with beautiful interior features. Luxury cars costing many thousands more dollars are no better than the XG350 as far as I am concerned.

Cushy and capable

We looked at a bunch of new cars at a show in January '04 and came away most impressed with the XG350. It had distinctive styling and a bunch of fancy features, yet was reasonably priced. We'd have bought new but found a used '02 for about $5K less, so we took it and have been very pleased ever since. It now has 44K miles. The car is fast, comfortable and reliable. I wish it cornered better, but we like the cushy ride. We've had all servicing and repairs done at the dealer and it's been excellent. Problems have been few and minor and the dealer fixed everything under the extended warranty we bought. Depreciation is disappointing, but most cars lose value fast. We really like this car!

Excellent automoble and great value!

Vehicle: 2002 Hyundai XG350 4dr Sedan (3.5L 6cyl 5A)

After owning a Mercedes for years my wife and I were tired of the costly repairs. We decided on the XG 350 because of the value, but recieved much more. The interior is as luxurious than sedans of much higher costs.I have made comparisons to Mercedes and BMW's other family members own. The stereo system is unbelievable with superior sound to anything we have ever owned. It is a blast to drive with the 3.5 litre 6 cyl. and shifttronic transmission. Great car!!!!!!

I'd buy anothery hyundai in

I love my XG. I bought a Regional Reps car that was turned in and had 10K miles on it. Great price. I love the 100k warranty. I've used it. The battery was replace at 30k, The rt front head light got water in it from a car wash and it was replaced. Noticed that the left head light now needs replaced because of the same reason. I've had to have some screws/bolts tightened on the front suspension because they keep coming loose.. dealer can't tell me why. I only drive city and Hwy- not 4 wheel. Best buy for the buck. Will stick with the Hyundai winners!

Out of the mainstream

Vehicle: 2002 Hyundai XG350 4dr Sedan (3.5L 6cyl 5A)

I've had my XG350 for over a year now, and am satisfied overall. What I don't like is: (1)leather seats are too hard, (2)gear shift lever can be too easily put into manual mode (3)no autodimming rear view mirror for this model and (4) poor resale value. On the plus side, the V6 provides more than adequate power, and there's a nice array of standard options.

$4000 less than a v6 camry or accord and 10k less than a loaded passat, faster, and much more comfortable, this is the sedan to beat. I was in line to buy a Passat and got curious. It's dead reliable and not anonymous like toyota or honda. It's got a great warranty that I've used for minor things. Great customer satisfaction.
