Re: Hyundai Tiburon reliable? [richs3]
Written by: stepdad on May 10, 2007 10:27:04 AM
Hyundai just does not have a very good record when it comes to reliability, hence the concern for a lemon risk. And to me, the Hyundai's look kind of "tinny". You had an AT, Tiburon; I am considering a five speed for the boy, because he REALLY wants a manual. But it is the MTs of the Tiburon that seem to be having problems, still, you suggest? The tC did have ... Read More

Who said you're considering a lemon? Whatever glitches there were with the 2003 Tiburon, it's history, unless of course, you have also heard that there were glitches with 2004, 2005, 2006, and now 2007. I suspect you haven't. Think all the good things you want to about Toyota, but sometimes when cars get a reputation, they stretch it, along with your billfold. And next thing you know, a person is no ... Read More

Hyundai Tiburon reliable?
Written by: stepdad on May 8, 2007 3:43:58 PM
I hope someone reads this, because I am soon going to plunk down $17-20K for a 2007 Tiburon GT (5 speed) for my wife's 17 year-old son, as a gift from both of us. But, I worry about the problems that may be encountered with a Hyundai. The boy really likes the car's styling, but I am not so sure about the reliability, given the 2003 Tib's history. And the not-so-great ... Read More

I have replaced the clutch & flywheel with after market parts because the dual-mast flywheel that is standard in these cars is defective, I have had to replace the transmission and now I believe the starter has just bit the dust, this is of course after I have had problems with the sunroof, power windows & brakes... So, Tiburon is a great deal considering the content of the car vs. the competition, yet sales are not too stellar. I see some around. Is it a lack of advertising? There is a class action suit in regards to the clutch on the 2003 model GT. While it appears to be a defect, and thus may indeed end up being covered, it is not a normally covered item. My son has a 2003 Tiburon. He has had problems getting Hyundai to cover certain things because they blamed his driving habits. He emptied out his childhood bank account to buy that car he took good care of it. I feel obligated to warn you, go with the Honda. My son would gladly trade his car for my 1998 accord.

Really interesting. After reading all of the posts about this stupid car, the "2003 tiburon", I realized that once my front brakes went out twice, the 6-spd tranny went out, then the front windshield started leaking into the infinity stereo, which then stopped working only to send a screeching sound every once in a while all on its own, next the sunroof broke, oh, and the clutch went out as well, ... Next, my CD player went out started eating CD's. The car was one year old when that happened. The dealership himmed and hawwed but replaced it no charge. This brings ... Read More

kinghedman, I can't provide any opinions on an 03 or 04 tiburon but I do concur regarding the quality of the 05 Tiburon. I can't be too over-confident on its reliability because I only have little over 5000kms on the car (I traded in my 00 sonata @ ~150K, which by the way was a solid vehicle) but I am very satisfied with the car. I am not only unhappy with the car but with the dealerships I've dealt with. I've been treated like I know nothing and in the end I was right about the problem. Took Hyundai's Inspectors to find it. I have parked the car until the litigation is over for the lemon law and bought a new Subaru B9 Tribeca and am thrilled with this vehicle.

Major Problems with Hyundai Tiburon, 2003 V6 GT Automatic

I purchased my Tiburon in January of 2004 as a holdover. I began to experience problems at 2400 miles. There was a shimmy and it pulled to the left when braking at 50 mph. The fix was to grind the rotors and put more air in the tires. Then at 6000 miles I lost all power and stalled on a busy street. I was stranded and had to have it towed. ... Read More
