We own a 2012 Sonata SE and while I don't have a lot of miles on it I researched the model in general A LOT before buying it. This in spite of owning two Santa Fe's (2002-2003) that were trouble free and a daughter owning a 2003 Elantra again trouble free + our sons 2000 Elantra that he sold at 193,000 miles still running fine. I guess I was mostly concerned ... Read More
I have a 2011 Sonata GLS; after driving approx. 10,000 miles, I noticed the front tires wearing on the outside edges. After taking it to the Hyundai dealer, and after me practically telling them there was a pretty good chance of an alignment problem, they put it "on the rack" and found that the camber needed adjustment. Well, the camber cannot be adjusted without ordering a camber kit to install some ... Read More
I have a 2012 Hyundai Sonata Limited (non-turbo). I had a 2011 Sonata Limited and made the "mistake" of trading it in for a 2012 Kia Optima. Obviously I did not like the Optima, as I am right back to the Sonata. Anyway.....I live in Chicago and we definitely have crappy weather, and deal with the "winter blend" of gas more months of the year than the "normal/summer" blend of gas. ... Read More
FWIW, I had a bad control arm on my Hyundai a few years back... an Elantra. Also it had a shredded alloy wheel--but miraculously the tire was still inflated. This happened when my DW ran head-on at about 30 mph into a curb, which she didn't see because of a blizzard that covered it up. There was other damage too. But (and this may be helpful to the OP)... the damage ... Read More
That's exactly what I was thinking. For the crossmember to be damaged he had to have hit something in the road and doesn't want to own up to it. I've worked with Hyundai, GM, Volkswagen, Suzuki and Toyota and have never seen one of those vehicles come in with a damaged crossmember that the warrant paid for. He's just gonna have to own up to it and either pay to fix ... Read More
SIGH....what did you leave out in your narrative about a damaged crossmember (one of the most structurally robust car parts as it retains the engine/transaxle assembly. Same for the control arms) In all my years of driving and dealing with automobiles those parts are almost never damaged except when the car is involved in: A.) an accident, and a bad one at that. and B.) when someone runs over that odd ... I purchased a 2011 Hyundai Sonata last May 2011, and it has been a complete nightmare dealing with Hyundai since then. The car first had problems at 4000 miles. I had to file 4 complaints to their corporate office to get the dealership to fix it. I got the ... Read More

I check my oil in all my cars once a week. I have a 2005 Elantra, 2005 Sonata GLS and a 2011 Limited. I have had NO problems with any of my cars. Hyundai makes a great car.
ryster: I agree with checking the oil periodically with the dipstick. Same issue comes up on other brands and owners complain they were not warned by the car. The oil life indicators cause lots of confusion. Hopefully Hyundai will not get a reputation for wiggling out of their great warranty because the market will punish them. However, certain owners and bashers on these sites seem determined to undermine the brand for ... Read More

When I say "plagued by problems", I'm talking about all the quality issues owners of 2011/2012 Sonata's are experiencing. Folks, what kind of mileage are you getting without the "eco" mode on? Thanks Dan
Congratulations! Great car for lot less money and best looking one out there in its class. I preferred the SE steering and suspension were both more firm and precise but dealers were asking way too much (22.4K) in Fall 2011. You're comparing a Honda Fit to the new Hyundai Sonata? The Fit is a small and lighweight vehicle that drives with no sense of urgency. High MPG is expected there. Note: 2012 offer is similar. http://www.hyundaiusa.com/financial-tools/special-offers.aspx No lease specials on the Hybrid. Sorry.
Hello. I have some questions about leasing a 2011 or 2012 Sonata. I really want the Hybrid model because of the great gas mileage. I checked the inventory at my local dealer and found this http://www.millenniumhyundai.com/VehicleDetails/new-2011-Hyundai-Sonata-4dr_Sdn_- 2.4_Auto_Hybrid-Hempstead-NY/1213718343 Does anyone know if the $199 per month special applies to the Hybrid models or is that just for the base models? TIA Jason
While the numbers provided by Hyundai are estimates the company will only say that 20 percent of Sonata sales are for the hybrid so it appears that the gas-electric Sonata is the number two selling hybrid for the second straight month. The Sonata is starting to look like a real winner, bypassing all other hybrids except for the Prius. Top Three Selling Hybrids for July: Toyota Prius 7,907 Hyundai Sonata 4,177 ... Read More
Test drove 3 2011 sonatas.. all pulled left bad so I decided to wait for the 2012s. Test drove 3 2012s last weekend. 2 had bad noticeable Right pull. One seemed to drive pretty straight. I dont know how on earth 1 year pulls left and the next pulls right. They obviously tried something that didnt work. At this point im weighing my options before investing in a car that they ... While it must be noted I do not yet own a new Sonata (but just placed a deposit on one) I have been following this issue since it surfaced. Read everything I could and viewed the you-tube clips. It does seem that a certain percentage of cars (numbers unknown) mainly turbo types do exhibit this strange behavior. I personally believe it is related to the electronic power steering rather than front ... Read More
Well, I have the 2nd post on this thread, and now the 7940th post. This is now my 3rd Sonata, the first one bought in 2001 (a 2002 model - that I totaled in 2009). The second bought as a replacement of the one I totaled (same 2002 make and model with a couple of different options - that I still have). Now this one (to replace my wife's Mazda MPV). ... Read More
The number one reason for not buying a car upon a visit to the dealership is "we have to do our research". Apparently you didn't do yours. The list is easily found by doing a simple google search. The sales professional is not at fault here. Next time don't just lie and say "we haven't done our research", actually do the research.
I'm having the same problem!! I hate my car as well!!! I have a 2009 sonata that i purchased in Feb 2011 and had to get the back breaks and rotors changed in May 2011... and just this weekend i started hearing that grinding noise again and now have to get them changed again and it's only been 2 months.... There is definitely a problem with this vehicle and the rear ... Read More

Hi atx2. According to the latest information that I have seen, Hyundai Finance's July buy rate lease money factor and residual value for a 36 month lease of a 2011 Sonata GLS with 12,000 miles per year are .00021 and 50%, respectively for consumers who qualify for its top credit tier. I don't believe that Hyundai is currently providing support on 24 month leases of this car. Car_man Host Prices Paid: ... Read More
Hi odessit771. You can look up the MSRP and dealer invoice price of the exact model that you want over in the New Vehicle Pricing section of Edmunds.com. If I was in the market for this car right now, I personally would shoot for a selling price of $500 to $750 over dealer invoice minus the available $1,500 cash incentive on leases. Hyundai Finance's current buy rate lease money factor and ... Read More
