Hyundai Sonata Brakes

New Sonata

Per the earlier message from targettuning, my Sonata was brand new when I bought it back in November 2006. I am very particular about my car and have always been told by mechanics that I am extremely easy on my breaks. To have two serious problems with breaks by 55K miles--one diagnosed at 36K as a stuck caliper, and this time as a problem with corroded pins in the break ... Read More...

Re: Dealer says it's normal [espo35]

I wonder. I've driven a couple of dozen (at least) 2006-2009 Sonatas over the years. Only one had a suspension noise I considered unusual. It was definitely a "thunk", albeit a faint one, over large bumps like railroad crossings. It was a used 2008 car with about 24k miles on it. So why do only some Sonatas exhibit this noise? Assuming it is a design issue, it might ... Read More...

2011 Hyundai Sonata

Re: Not enamored [billward]

Hey Bill, I have the XD Elantra and I've been more than surprised with what I got for the money. I would like to upgrade to a mid-sized or larger vehicle but don't really care for the looks of the current Elantra. I do like the 2006-20010 Sonata's looks but I do think it's up for a total overhaul in design. I don't really know what to think about the new 2011 design because ... Read More...

Hyundai Sonata Climate Control Questions

Intermittent problem with 2006 Hyundai Sonata climate contrl

If I leave the temperature control in the cool range when turn off the engine at end of the day, I cannot get heat the next morning when turn the temperature control to heat range doesn't make a difference if I turn control to heat range before or after starting the engine. . If I leave control on heat range at night, do not have the problem. Hyundai dealer could not diagnose. ... Read More...

Re: 2007 Sonata rear brake issue [haidong]

Why so much interest "to stay Hyundai board" ?? Yes, I owned Hyundai....I happen to have had two Hyundai products personally (2003, 2004 Santa Fe), my son had a 2000 Elantra that when sold had 193,000 miles with no significant problems, my daughter still owns a 2003 Elantra GT. I happen to like Hyundai and plan to buy a 2010 Sonata hybrid (if they release it for 2010) ... Read More...

Re: 2011 Sonata V6 Nixed! [the_pill]

Re wind noise, I remember when the 2006 Sonata debuted here with non-folding mirrors, Hyundai said they used them to minimize wind noise. At the time I thought that was a bogus excuse, and they had done it as a cost-saving measure. Now I'm not so sure. Also we might see non-folding mirrors on the 2011 Sonata in the USA, since there's no need for them on cars that are ... Read More...

Re: Parts question [jnichols1]

The 2003, 2004, and 2005 models were almost identical; very, very few changes were made between those years (and as an owner of a 2003 (and a 2009), I can't tell the difference visually between the models). Changes between a 2002 and a 2003 were slightly more significant, as there was a major facelift in 2003; 2005 was a "short run" ala the way the 2010 model will be, ... Read More...

Hyundai Sonata Front Suspension "Thunk"

Re: FYI [kaypea]

Yes, you are correct I do not currently own a Hyundai product (how you assumed that I don't know but nice guess) although in total our family has owned 4 (two Santa Fe's for me, an Elantra for my son and our daughter still owns her 2003 Elantra GT). In fact I intend to purchase a new redesigned 2011 Sonata but all that aside I am only trying to present a possible explaination ... Read More...

Re: 2006 Sonata - High Rev at Start-up [coldgl]

The tapping on start up are the valve lifters "pumping up" after an extended shut down time...say overnight. The lifters drain oil back out eventually and until they pump up again (refill with motor oil) they do not have the "hydraulic cushion" oil under pressure provides. While not exactly what one would like to hear on a new-ish car it isn exactly unheard of. ... Read More...

Re: 2006 Sonata - High Rev at Start-up [tomk17]

Our Sonata V6 has 18K miles and has done the tapping noise on startup since new. The dealer said the noise was "normal". With oil changes every 3K miles, I have my mechanic add Wynn's oil additive each time as a preventive measure. it doesn't stop the noise but protects engine parts. Engine revs do not seem high to me on startup. Although this is an OK car for the price, ... Read More...
