2006 Hyundai Sonata GLS V6 4dr Sedan (3.3L 6cyl 5A)

Review

After owning a few nice but questionably built US cars, this Sonata model has restored my faith in car manufacture. It's just beautifully designed and built. It has a strong and confident engine. The details are just so nicely thought out. This is an unparalleled highway car. Improvement I feel could be the ride as it's is a bit bouncy on city bumps and the gas mileage drops too much in the city. Otherwise excellent excellent car. Gorgeous refined looking exterior.

Best Features

Exterior design. Smooth engine and ride. Good seats. Head room , voluminous trunk and rear seat room. Excellent features, cubbies, visors lights etc..

Worst Features

Ride on rough pavement. City gas mileage a bit low. Stronger seat material and darker colors available. The light beige seats are practically white! Change the ignition design so keys don't bang on dash.

2006 Hyundai Sonata GLS V6 4dr Sedan (3.3L 6cyl 5A)

Review

Bought this 06 Sonata brand new. Now it has 33K miles and no problems at all. Wife drives it to work every day and a family car for the week-ends. Engine is powerful and quiet. Interior and trunk are very spacious. ABS brakes and ESC work as designed. Highway mileage is great, city could be better. Overall great car under $20K with power sunroof, ABS, alloy wheels. Great job Hyundai, will definitely buy another Hyundai car or SUV in next couple of years. No wonder Hyundai's sales went up in this down car market while other car makers are suffering.

Best Features

Powerful and quiet engine, ABS braks and ESC with alloy wheels. PRICE compared to Toyotas and Hondas.

Worst Features

Poor radio reception, driver side sun visor, city gas mileage. Dealers should stop pushing for expensive, unnecessary services.

2006 Hyundai Sonata GLS V6 4dr Sedan (3.3L 6cyl 5A)

Review

This is my second review. Wife and daughter T-boned a lady driving a Saturn Outlook doing 50 MPH in our Sonata GLS, then spun out into a ditch. Based on the damage our car was totaled. The Sonata held up very well, all 4 doors would still open and the front end crumple zones took the impact very well. I was very impressed with the safety of the vehicle, both wife and daughter walked away pretty much unharmed. I would buy another Sonata based on this alone, including other features like the fun to drive, comfort and reliability factor. BEST car on the market for the money, hands down.

Best Features

Power, reliability, heat and air work great, handling. Lots of storage for sunglasses, maps, and other stuff. Looks sharp too. Optional 17" rims on the GLS are the best looking on the market. Fuel economy, 24 under hard full cycle, set the cruise under 72 and 29.5 easy. 86 octane gas!

Worst Features

Driver seating position on the 2006 was a little odd, hard to get fully comfortable. Suggest buying an 07, as Hyundai fixed position. Radio controls on steering wheel moronic...can't change station, but can change mode. Dual Climate controls would be nice

2006 Hyundai Sonata GLS V6 4dr Sedan (3.3L 6cyl 5A)

Review

I drive it a lot. Both visors failed after warranty, Hyundai wouldn't replace them. Something is rattling in the rear end, not sure what, but I think it needs shocks/struts. Windshield washer just failed. Otherwise the car is great and I would buy another. The trailer hitch kit that said "bolts on in under 30 minutes..." did!

Best Features

Great power, good looks, Jimmy Hoffa- sized trunk.

Worst Features

Better visors, improved fuel economy.

Review

Traded in our 2004 Hyundai Sonata straight up for this 2006 SEV6. Have owned for just over 2 years now. The dealer replaced oil injector (pre- luber) and right front strut at 2 years.(Warranty, baby) Other than that, no other problems, period. May trade in for a 2009 if they can pry me away from this one. ;) Biggest complaint is the road noise when driving on concrete surfaced roads, pavement isn't to bad. The stock 17" Michelin tires wear out quickly...will not buy those as replacements.

Best Features

Price...style...warranty...POWER! This can/will throw you back in the seat! It's not even a V-8! Mp3 /Cd player is nice, but HD radio or USB/iPod inputs (like the 2009's) would have been killer! Cabin air filter only took 4 minutes to change...NO tools! Did I mention lots of POWER? :)

Worst Features

Spark plug replacement is NOT a home user project on this engine...manifold is in way of 3 back plugs. As others have said- gas mileage is fair around town, but much better on highways. Factory tinted glass would be nice touch as well.
