Hi first post on here. I was hoping I could have some advice for my upcoming lease attempt. First the back round information is that I drive a 1994 gmc van which gets about 8 miles to the gallon so the cost of gas is around 400 or 500 a month plus insurance which is around 100 I'm paying 500-600 a month for this car. I really can't afford to drive ... Read More
"Some good points but I drive a car ten years before trade in and it is pretty used up by then. " I also plan to drive a car for a long time. Replaced a 1994 with the 2006 Sonata, which is a very good car. I had hoped to drive it for just as long. But then Hyundai does this really crazy thing and creates the 2011 Sonata! So resale ... The Accent in 2005 was the first Hyundai Hybrid, then came the Elantra, then the Santa Fe. They sell these in limited quanitites in China and South Korea to test and work out the kinks in the real world before applying them to North American Products. The Sonata Hybrid will be the first mass produced Hyundai Hybrid. Hyundai actually invented its first Hybrid powertrain in 1994 with a modified Scoupe engine. ... Read More
I thought I'd chime in on the subject since I've driven quite a few 4th generation Sonatas, both rentals and test drives (15+ miles) at dealerships: 2006: 3 GLS models (1 rental), 1 LX model 2007: 1 GLS model, 2 SE models (1 rental) 2008: 1 GLS model (rental) 2009: 1 GLS model I own a 2006 GLS V6. On all types of road surfaces, none of the above Sonatas I ... Read More
Hi, my name is Chris and I just purchased a 2006 Sonata GLS V6 with about 20K on the odometer. I think it was an Enterprise rental car as the dealer (Gartner Hyundai in Aurora, IL) had quite a few in different colors. Mine has a moon roof, premium sound system, etc. and I got it for $14,200 plus tax..seemed like a pretty good deal. I like the way it runs ... Read More
At least you're being honest by seeing 1998 Accord in 2005 Sonata. I wasn't talking about tape measurements, but the shape which is undeniably similar. And you might not have noticed, Accord Coupe doesn't have the same headlamps as the sedan. Or, are you disagreeing with those who have been suggesting that Accord looks like Sonata? And if you're all in agreement, then Caliber and Sonata are look-alike too! It usually ... Read More
If you're going to only keep the car a few years - say less than the 10 year powertrain warranty period - I would say go for the Lambda V6. But, if you intend to keep the car longer, I would strongly suggest you consider the Theta Inline 4 cylinder. When maintenance is required, it will cost much more on the V6, as any transverse V6 is simply much harder to ... Read More
I rented a 2007 Hyundai Sonata V6 (not leather) yesterday and have driven it about 150 miles, much of it on a freeway at 70-80 mph. My initial and continuing impression is that it has a lot of road noise, both from the pavement and from other cars (that mostly in city traffic). I've been very surprised that all reviews I can find praise the lack of road noise. The car ... Read More
I'm not making judgements on the car itself, or the total cost of ownership... The Sonata may be the greatest car ever manufactured, but it doesn't hold it's value very well. How do we know what 2006-2007 Sonata's will sell for 5 years down the road? All I have to go by is the fast-rising quality of Hyndai's, which is now in the same ballpark with Honda and Toyota. Forget about ... Read More

It was my first new domestic vehicle after ... Read More
Hyundai seems to be on a roll piling up a lot of awards recently on its Sonata. I do like their styling on the Sonata, the Azera, and even the new Santa Fe SUV (a bit off topic). This is good for the very competitive mid-size car segment. This field is just too crowded and prices will continue to decline. One can expect some amazing sales this November and December. I ... Hi My name is Eric and on Friday I bought an LX fully loaded. I bought Dark Cinnamon and it is a gorgeous color. I haven't had any suspension noises or creaking noises but since I always have the CD player blasting I can't hear them if they are there :D I have owned an '84 Plymouth Turismo a 1990 Plymouth Sundance which wasn't bad,a 1994 Eagle Talon, a 1996 Galant ... I agree with you on Honda engine technology. After all, Honda is primarily an engine company, who just happens to make cars, and other consumer products. That being said, I get 26MPG on my 1994 Dodge Grand Caravan ES (3.3L OHV V6) with the A/C on during the summer on trips. No too shabby for an old minivan with over 160K on the clock - and, the original 4-speed ECT I ... Read More

Is this for the 06? My 04 is only 21.95plus tax, less than 24 dollars, and Wal-Mart is 26 + after taxes, because they do not always carry Hyundai(pseudo Hyundai) filters. Toyota/Scion only charges 27.95Plus tax, or around 30 for out 05 tC oil change. I may have to look around on a few Hyundai fan forums, for 06 sonata oil changes being so much. Worst i have heard was 32 ... Read More
Actually, it is the late model Honda's that are on the most stolen list. Honda's are most likely stolen because their parts are needed in the tuner market. 1. 1995 Honda Civic 2. 1989 Toyota Camry 3. 1991 Honda Accord 4. 1994 Dodge Caravan 5. 1994 Chevrolet C/K pickup 6. 1997 Ford F-150 7. 2003 Dodge Ram 8. 1990 Acura Integra 9. 1988 Toyota pickup 10. 1991 Nissan Sentra I doubt ... I'm a very conservative person, and this mantra impacts my automobile purchases. What have I owned over the last twenty years? A 1985 SAAB 900 (still own), a 1990 Honda Civic (sold), and a 1994 Dodge Grand Caravan ES (still own). That's it for the last twenty years, excluding my kids' cars! Conservative, and Scotch, plus I always pay cash, hence I never have a car payment. I buy them the ... Read More
How about 06 Sonata? If you still have 04 Sonata, you can get GLS v6 for $16,000 after owner's rebate. It will be way more cheaper than Japanese or domestic cars that have less features. You also have to consider that any car with 100,000 miles on it eventually need some fix. Here are some examples from my cars and my family's .... wife's 1994 Accord needed new steering pump, thermostat, ... Read More
okay folks. I tested two sonatas and one camry today and I'll give you my thoughts. First the sonatas --- I tested a GL (obviously 4 cyl) 2006 sonata today for about 20 miles. It was peppy but the engine was noticeably loud. Brakes worked great. stereo wasn't bad. Wind noise wasn't too bad but with the michelin MXV4's, there was road noise. Manual seats were okay once you got set. ... Read More
I'm considering a 2006 sonata gl/gls vs. camry. Have a 1994 camry (had two) that I'm wanting to dump with 201K (still rides great though). Anyway, down to sonata and camry. Wife has new loaded accord. She says everyone has a camry and accord and that's boring. I read the sonata problems for 2005 model and earlier. They scare the hell out of me. Transmission issues at 5K??? burnt trans fluid?? ... Read More
Been to my local hyundai dealer several times. Finally test drove the 4 cyl. Not bad and all the safety features. Rejected the '04 sonata to get a '04 accord exl. I'm not paying anything over invoice for a hyundai and can get a camry at below invoice and 2.9% for 48 months. Not concerned by ... Read More
The entire A/C compressor "burns out"? Or the clutch? If the clutch keeps failing, I'd wonder whether the installer(?) is tightening too much tension into the belt. That could cause A/C compressor clutch bearing failure and maybe A/C compressor bearing failure, too. However, if the A/C compressor, itself, keeps failing internally, I'd have to wonder if the installer(?) is bothering to add the required amount of -synthetic- refrigerant oil in... (1994 ... I have owned three Hyundais over the years. - a 1989 Sonata - horrible, wonky transmission which was repaired under warrantee but the car drove poorly - it was a freeby from work -1994 Excel - flawless, trouble free car.
