Thanks for the idea. We actually have a Camry, Sequoia and Tundra. The 1993 Camry is the one we are selling. The only thing with the V6 Camry is the gas mileage is so much worse than the turbo and once you load up the V6 to make it equal with the Sonata with the options, the Sonata is a better deal. Mentally though, I am just not okay with spending ... Read More
Just got my 2011 SE this past Sunday from King Hyundai in Deerfield Beach, FL. Trade in my 2007 SE V6 for this car and decided to lease this time around. I have to say that I am very impressed with this car. Definately leap year difference compared to my previous Sonata. The materials used in this car are much better then before. You can feel it right from the grasp ... Read More
I have a minivan, too (in fact, I currently own FIVE automobiles... the minivan gets driven occasionally, but with 180K miles, I try now to save it for when I take the Boy Scouts out (I'm a leader in my troop)) 1989 Camaro RS V8 all options, 92K miles 1996 Plymouth Voyager Ralley, SWB, V6 180K 2003 Sonata GLS V-6 with all options, 112K 2008 Kia Rio5 9K miles (my son's ... Actually, that looks like a decent price to me, provided that they aren't rebate baiting him. Check to ensure they aren't folding in rebates that few people qualify in that price, such as the Military rebate and the recent college graduate rebate; provided that's true, and there are no hidden "Gotcha" fees (such as "Hey, that didn't include the $720 freight! Or the $500 document fee! Or the $350 SUCKER fee!"), ... Read More
Jason, I know this won't be helpful today, but.... Best price in Houston was about 6-7 weeks back. Buy a Sonata, get a new Accent free (or pay the difference and get a new Elantra for $2K). Net cost of the car, if you sold the Accent immediately, was about 11K for a loaded GLS. Only problem was that you had to buy at MSRP-Hyundai rebates. Considering my son's need for ... Read More
I thought I'd chime in on the subject since I've driven quite a few 4th generation Sonatas, both rentals and test drives (15+ miles) at dealerships: 2006: 3 GLS models (1 rental), 1 LX model 2007: 1 GLS model, 2 SE models (1 rental) 2008: 1 GLS model (rental) 2009: 1 GLS model I own a 2006 GLS V6. On all types of road surfaces, none of the above Sonatas I ... Read More
To reechz who is on the fence about purchasing the Sonata, bite the bullet! You'll be getting a lot more bang for your buck with the Sonata and the warranty is unbeatable. I too was concerned about quality (I was a former Camry owner with 200k miles) because I drive my cars into the ground, but I rest assured with the excellent warranty. There isn't a day that goes by that ... Read More
I get a definite thunk from my right front wheel when I go over the two speed bumps at work at about 10 mph. I drove over to the dealership where I purchased my 2008 Sonata. I searched around their location for speed bumps that would produce the same thunk. After trying to reproduce the annoying thunk at about 6 different bumps, I finally gave up. It appears that the car ... Read More
I don't think so. The only similarity seems to be sharper inside corners of the headlamps, and that is a contemporary design element seen in a boat load of cars. Is it really that different from, say, what you see in TL, TSX, Civic, or several Japanese Hondas? In fact, it isn't too different from 1990-1993 Accord's headlamp with a contemporary touch. But here is the other Honda (Japanese) from which ... Read More
i agree that the accord is better than the sonata in terms of perceived quality (i.e. by about 10% at most but of course, i believe its a lot less than that). but then again, the accord is realistically more expensive (i.e. by about 30% at least and with less features). take your pick! i'll get the sonata, anytime. of course, we did for about $5,000 less than the accord with ... Just got home from buying the last new "dark cinnamon" 2006 Sonata LX V6 at Metro Mitsubishi in south Minneapolism with sunroof, leather seats, 6-CD changer, heated seats, etc. Paid $20,500 with $2,500 factory rebate and another $2,000 off the MSRP. No additional delivery charge. The salesman was great to work with, very helpful and not at all pushy. We've been driving a 1993 Camry, which we're keeping as a second ... Read More

Maybe I am reading your post wrong, but the Sonata did not debut in 2004. The Sonata debuted in 1989 with redesigns in 1993, 1995, 1998, 2000, 2004, and 2006 with the 7th style. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hyundai_Sonata
Have 2003 Sonata, 4-cylinder, automatic, tire pressure at 35 pounds, change oil and filter every 2500 miles. Bought the car new. No problems thus far, car has 34,000, but highway mileage at 60-65 mph is never better than 28 to 28.7 (the 28.7 is rare) and need to drive conservatively to achieve that. Drive 70 mph and it goes down to 27 mpg. Combined city roads/country highways (mostly 45 to 55 ... Read More
My first visit to these boards...I find it extremely puzzling how defensive Honda/Toyota owners are. What can it possibly matter to you how good or bad a 2006 Sonata is? As the proud owner of a 2004 Accord coupe (Ex, V6, etc - yeah I overpaid to get leather and a navigation system, I'm a superficial SOB, deal with it), I wish Hyundai all the best. I have no financial stake ... Read More
Deluxe, Honda by the way they package different models does not allow very many upgrades. The 180 watt is only available with the EX V6 6-speed manual ( sedan or coupe) . If you get the NAV it would be fairly hard to upgrade. If you get non-NAV you could upgrade speakers, amps and head units to a much better stereo. The only downside is that you would probably loose your ... Read More
I did not mean similarity between Sonata, SantaFe, etc., but a visible evolutionary similarity between Sonata to Sonata as the years progress. You can look at Accords, or Civics or Cavaliers thru time and see changes, non-changes and evolutionary changes that still resemble the previous years' cars of that model. Hyundai sometimes just starts all over and copies at that. When one is confident, one changes one's own look rather than ... Read More
I have read this board for the first time today. We own a 1993 Honda Accord LX, 4-dr, original owner, we drive a lot, it has 272,5xx miles, uses no oil, no major problems. On highway driving it gets 30 to 31 mpg (we drive a bit over the speed limit). Automatic, 4-cyl, 2.4L I think. We also own a 2003 Sonata, automatic, 4-cylinder. It has 24,XXX miles on it. Best ... I really wanted the Elantra GT (!), but my wife thought it was too small, too sporty (too RED!), and didn't think our daughter (16 this coming Sunday, July 7th) could learn to drive a stick!!! (Yeah right, the kid can play trumpet, piano, baritone horn and is a volleyball setter...I think she can handle a stick...) So, I looked longingly at the GTs, but the sales manager said "Drive a ... Bought my Sonata October 24, 2001. Very happy so far. Great car, lots of extras and great price. Got a base auto transmission Sonata. Only extra was floor mats and mud guards. Plenty of pick up with the 4 cylinder. MSRP with freight was $16,655. Traded a 1993 Grand AM GT, 107,000 miles. I became interested in Hyundai because of the warranty. Did my home work at Edmunds on value of ... Read More
