My Sonata Hybrid is a major disappointment

I previously had a Toyota Camry Hybrid that I consistanly got 31 mpg in town. My new Sonata gives me about 22 to 24 mpg. I have had it in 3 times and they always tell me that everything is performing as it should and that I am the only one who has complained. I was also told by a mechanic that I could do just as well with the regular Sonata for les money. I made a terrible mistake in buying this car but for them to tell me that they have not had any complaints is an insult.

2 car repairs and only 5 month old

My confidence in this vehicle has just been shot down again...and maybe for good. I've had it in the shop the first month because of a malfunction in the emissions valve. Then today, only 5 months after I got it, the engineer shut down while driving on the freeway. The car wouldn't start back up. I'm thinking twice that I should have gone with a new Lexus instead.

I purchased the car as in between the super gas miser and luxury car. I just came off a 3000 mile plus trip driving straight through 25 hours each way and the comfort, drive-ability and economy spoke for itself. My passenger also agreed, 25 hours sitting in a car is not easy but certainly attainable in the Sonata and my body is 73 years of age. I averaged 39 to 42 miles per gallon driving 70 MPH with the A/C on. We drove in extremely heavy interstate traffic and the car performed wonderfully. The steering is quicker and tighter than I like it but not a problem. City driving fuel mileage leaves some to be desired, I really do not find it much better than the regular Sonata, about 25 MPG.

I hate my Sonata Hybrid

We bought this car for me since I am on the road more than my husband. The gas mileage is significantly lower than promised. I am so disappointed since that is the major reason we purchased this car. My husband drives it now. We like the back up camera (we bought the top model) and the sun roof is a wow factor...but in the hot Texas sun we haven't really used it except at night. It sits low so big bumps/dips scrap the bottom. We spent more money on this car because the promised gas mileage ( saleman said) I wish I had made a different choice. The dealer has told us tough luck on the 22mpg...we are stuck with it-or take the lost trading it.

Bought the Car in May 2011 and have been very happy with it. I came from an Infiniti G35 and while this car inst nearly as lively or quick as the infiniti, it has a much smoother ride once you get going. I can definitely feel the "lurch" when i start to accelerate but this isn't really a big deal when you get used to it. I have read complaints about the brakes but i haven't noticed any problems yet. I work about 25 miles from home so my daily commute is about 50 miles and I have been averaging 33.5 mpg and can get 36 if i feather the gas. I saw some reviews where people lose mpg when operating the ac but I keep my at 72 (econ) and it doesn't seem to affect my mpg to much.

Hybrid Sonata

I wanted to wait a few months to rate this car and have driven it for 3 months now so still early but here are my findings. Hyundai quoted 35 city and 45 hwy mpg. I haven't done any extensive hwy driving but city is about 25 mpg. I assume that is less than if I bought the standard gas model. I live in the desert of So Cal and since owning this car, I have run the A/C nearly all the time I have driven it. I have noted a better MPG when not using the A/C. There are some quirks, like at a stop light, if the engine kick on to charge the battery while the A/C is on, there is a slight jolt forward. I have looked into my rearview twice to see if I was rear-ended, lol.

My 2011 Sonata Hybrid is a piece of junk

Bought mine in May 2011, I have given this car every opportunity to be satisfying to me, BUT...It's a PIECE! Will be taking back to my l dealer for the 3rd time tomorrow since "check engine" light is back on AGAIN. Here's whats been wrong so far in 3 LONG months of ownership and 9,000 miles: Gas tank issues, it wont let me put a FULL tank of gas in it you can pump SLOWLY 5 more gallons in it after the pump handle clicks indicating its full. Strip of plastic along entire roof is coming off. Surge/Sluggish/Jerks u back & forth while accelerating(dealer says its normal!) power sunroof stops midway, wont close all way, clunky front suspension noise on drivers side. Wish I had my G35 back!

Only buy one if you have a large dealer that has serviced a hybrid

These cars are so new and different from anything out there I would only buy if my local Dealer sold Premium versions, which means they are a large volume dealer and their service department has seen a hybrid before, because if they haven't seen one you will probably know more about than he/she does. I took mine,a Blue Premium to the dealer because we are only getting 27.2 to 33.6 mpg,and yes we are hypermiling.Just because yours is getting 40+ mpg, doesn't mean we just fell off the turnip wagon, feel blessed. And I'm talking mpg @ the pump, not what the computer is telling me,color me skeptical. It was also starting up not in EV,but firing the engine, wouldn't go over 20mph in EV,crawling

I purchased the 2011 Hybrid Hyundai Sonata 2 months ago and it has been nothing but a headache for me. I have had the car in the shop now almost every weekend since I bought it because of new issues that keep arising. The gas tank is a huge issue, and Hyundai seems to have no idea what is actually going on with it. They have "fixed" it 3 times now and I am still having issues. I am currently getting around 23 miles to the gallon (glad I spent the extra 6 grand to get a hybrid) and I also think I might be leaking fuel as well. (I filled up my car 2 days ago and have driven 100 miles and already have less than a half tank) The computer system in the car looks great, but it cannot even begin to function. The average fuel economy cannot calculate itself at all, it has continuous glitches that keep popping up (which is why my car is currently in the shop) I also just recently received a recall notice on this car a week ago, but it was a "fix" I already had done and it did not fix the issue. In contrast my problems have actually been worse since having this "repair". I think Hyundai had the right idea with this car and I think it is gorgeous, but I also believe they tried to rush the production on this model.

be cautious of fuel mileage claims

I have 1000 miles on my new sonata hybrid premium and after three calucated mileage fill ups and driving like GRANDMOTHER and 75 percent of the driving on highway, the best mileage I can obtain is 32.2 mpg. I have called Hyundai and they read a speech about 'driving' easy. The dealer's service manager said, the car is so new, we're not sure of everything yet- drive it till the first oil change and we'll take a look at it. I am being told by other sonata owners, they're getting 35 to 40 mpg, both regular sonatas and hybrids- I feel like I have a lemon and no one is listening!!!! My family doesnt want to ride with me as I am driving so conservatively to try and obtain better mileage!
