I'm seriously considering making the call to a local station or national network. I'm waiting for a call from the new service manager at my dealership. He told me this morning that he was going to do some "research." He's new and didn't know anything about my December 18, 2010 complaint. If I don't get any satisfaction, I will take the next step and bring this to the attention of the ... Read More
I have the 2009 GLS 2.7L AWD. I went from a 4wd Silverado to the SUV with no regrets. My major construction days are done, and driving around paying a fortune for fuel with an empty truck bed 94% of the time seemed like a good reason to let it go. I wanted a new vehicle, without breaking the bank. I opted for the GLS vs. the upscale version not because ... Read More
It looks like the only way anything is going to happen here is if the media gets involved. I strongly urge everyone to contact not only the local station but also the major networks such as Fox, CNN etc. If enough people do this then someone will take notice at some point. Once that happens it will be more difficult for Hyundai to ignore this very serious problem.
I just posted my Santa Fe experience on this Blog. My horrible experience happened on December 18, 2010. I have not received any resolution from ANYONE, including my dealership or the Department of Transportation or the Florida Lemon Law department. After reviewing all these blogs this morning, I'm as mad as heck!! How much longer is Hyundai going to bury their head in the sand? Until someone is killed, no doubt. ... Read More
I experienced a sudden exceleration with my 2009 santa fe back on December 18, 2010. It was terrifying to say the least. It also happened as I was slowly pulling into a parking space. No one has posted here for about 6 months, but I was happy to find this thread. Update to earlier message. Hyundai Corp. has taken the stance that SUA is not a problem with their vehicles. In other words I did not wreck the ******** or get killed so I can't prove it happened. They say the vehicle is safe for us to drive. We are still dealing with Herrnsteins and hope they'll make it right. Oh and Hyundai has put a safety feature on their new models. ... Read More
This is the same arrogant attitude they have shown to everyone - now about 30 incidents recorded just on this one forum about this one model in a relatively short period of time so that would seem to speak for itself. Please please report it to the safety authorities and maybe soon there will be enough ammunition to get them and the motoring press on to it.
Since you had the surge experience more than once, I would recommend that you insist that the dealership's service department keep the Santa Fe for a minimum of 3 days and have someone drive it consistantly. Insist on a loaner car for the time period. I only experienced one unintended sudden acceleration, but that was more than enough for me. After several months the dealership did agree to take the care ... Read More

$24,000 is not unreasonable for that vehicle. Last year's model, been used as a demo, probably the last one they have - you betcha they want to get rid of it! Hyundai is on a roll lately, so they probably won't deal as much on a '10.

Husband and son want slate blue gray leather, cause they are worried about the beige interior. I spend a lot of time in my car, but no longer have little kids (16 and 19). I need HONEST opinions on how the leather holds up so I can make ... Read More

Thanks for getting back to me right away. I have owned hyundai's since 1995 accent, 2000 sonata, 2002 bought elantra and santa fe, now 2009 santa fe again because I have never had any problem and I have been so impressed with the way the turned this company around building a quality product now. It just bugs me that not all Santa fe's have the problem. Some friends own new ones ... Read More
Danny, I have meant to post again about the problem (I am the person that started this thread). My 2008 Santa Fe Limited 3.3L AWD still has the "problem". I still don't like it, but have learned to live with it. I did find that the threshold temperature at which it will shift hard on that first 2nd to 3rd shift is 65 degrees F. Below that temp it does it ... Read More
I haven't gone back to Hyundai dealership to test-drive the Santa Fe with the 3.3L engine yet, but had one more vehicle to test-drive before narrowing down the list. Went to test drive an Equinox, and the dealer didn't even have any except in the showroom, but we did drive a 2010 GM Terrain, which he said was basically the same platform and interior as the Equinox; only difference was the ... Sorry; forgot trim lines are different in different world-markets. Hyundai USA doesn't offer a GL model, only GLS (2.7), SE and Limited (3.3).
Subaru has several different systems, two on the Forester alone. The manuals have a simple viscous coupling mating the front and rear axles together, acting like a center diff. When one rotates at a different rate than the other, the fluid sheers and thickens, temporarily locking the two axles together. Subaru lets their AWD systems act first, but as a backup there is also a traction and stability control system, to ... Read More
The Santa Fe gives a lot of bang for the buck. I only drove the model with the four cylinder but will go back to drive one with the six. Hyundai doesn't offer a 4-cylinder 2009 Santa Fe. The GLS (what you drove) uses a 2.7L V6 engine, with 185 horsepower and 183 ft-lbs of torque. It's actually quite smooth to me, even at high RPM, if not particularly quick off ... Read More
Hyundai has come a long way, and that's a good value for a V6. My concern would be fuel economy, that and depreciation will make your TCO higher on the SF. Drive one - you may find it's worth the extra outlay, but just go in knowing it will cost you a bit more to operate.
I am thinking about purchasing the Forester or the Santa FE here in Vancouver, Canada. Test drove other models (i.e. RAV 4 and CR-V but came to the conclusion that they are inferior to the Forester). Hyundai is offering basically $3000 off on all their vehicles to clear out the 2009 models. The 2.5 X with Touring Package is comparable to the Santa Fe's 3.3 GLS except that the Santa Fe ... First time Hyundai owner! I shopped around 4-5 dealers in the Bay Area and South County Nissan Internet Manager was willing to quote me $21,800 for the 2009 Santa Fe SE with added bluetooth and carpeted floor mats. In all, it was $24, 300 out the door. And I asked him to engage the autolocks as a courtesy which he did w/o question. I would highly recommend that dealer again.
All you need is a small thin-blade screwdriver to get in between the plugs and the molding. It took me a bit of effort, and I did scratch up the molding a bit (it's hidden by the arm of the screen once it's in place). Go slowly and carefully, they'll pop out.
I just purchased a genuine Hyundai Cargo Screen kit for my 2009 Santa Fe and there were not directions in the kit or any tools to remove the plastic caps along the side boards where it needs to be installed. Can anyone help me and let me know if I am missing any pieces from the kit and/or how to remove the caps without scratching up the side board? I appreciate ... Read More
Thanks to all who have posted before; I hope this post will also help others. Did the internet/phone contact route and was down to a local dealership and Doug's Hyundai in Lynnwood, about 80 miles away. We ended up with this deal from Doug's: MSRP: 31,945 (pearl white, mats, bluetooth) Invoice: 30,131 (this includes $150 advertising) Price after $2K rebate applied: 27,431, or $700 under invoice. And, they threw in an ... Read More
