Overall, this is an impressive automobile and a good value.
It clearly seeks to emulate much more expensive sedans from Lexus, BMW, and Mercedes.
It comes closer in some areas than others.
Some aspects of the car are exceptional - perhaps superior to its more costly competitors; but in other areas, not so much.
It's a lot of car for the money, superior in many ways to equal-cost competitors ... but don't expect it to equal cars costing $10, 20, or 30k more... not yet.
Superlative fit and finish inside and out; Outstanding limo-like back seat; extremely low wind noise; Wonderfully strong and effortless acceleration and stopping with great brake feel (both make the car seem much lighter than it is).
Tight turning radius, with virtually no lean, squat, or dive. Good sound system.
Disturbingly loud tire roar on rough roads.
Even at dimmest, dash lighting too bright at night. Cruise, LDW, and High Beam indicators likewise too bright.
Even map / cabin lighting are unnecessarily harsh.
AV/Nav system exhibited "audio-lock-up" (unable to produce any sound) on two occasions in first 3k miles then "healed" overnight (hard to fix what won't stay broke).
Nav is dated and doesn't speak street names.
Adaptive cruise control is great until cars pull in front without accelerating away.
Rather than coasting, it's unnecessarily on the brakes.
This is disconcerting and not fuel efficient.
Rear seat heater switches need to be recessed to avoid recurring inadvertent actuation.
Reading the review, sorry, but it does often equal cars costing 10-20-or 30K more.
First, it has a better warranty, 5 years bumper to bumper.
2nd, you got leather, not pleather as in BMW.
Come on, I am paying $40K for a BMW and I have to pay another $1K for real leather?
Price out the tech and navigation prices on a 3 or 5 series, BMW.
Your way over 30K different, and you have a smaller interior.
Then new 3 and 5 series BMW comes with a nice 4 CYL now as standard engine. A 4 cylinder in a 4000lb BMW 5 Series?
The reviews by the experts are pretty poor.
I remember Saab getting hell for using 4 cyl turbos, for 30 years, but now BMW you think that engine with 6 years less on the warranty and comparable gas mileage is not equal?
Your 0-60 is better; your gas mileage is the same.
You want cruise control with camera front views on those other cars; it will cost you about $2K.
You want it in a Taurus or Chrysler 300?
Nope Options, well to get an equal stereo, you can only get the Lexicon with 17 speakers in the top of the line option on the 7 series, and Bentley Flying Spur, not even available on the 3 or 5 series.
Not talking about 30K difference, we are talking more like $40-$50K difference.
Why did you buy the car, and not notice "disturbingly loud tire roar on rough roads" on a test drive?

Part with $1K and get yourself some soft tires on TireRack.

People want feedback, then they want a soft ride, you have to choose what you want.
Go to the "Build my BMW" site and load it up with the same options as a loaded Genesis, equal cars in price are your loaded Chrysler 300, Taurus, or Buick LaCrosse, and they will still cost you 5-6K more when you put in all the same options, and many of them are not even available.
You need to drive the comparison cars you are talking about.
Lexus has the same blue lights in the interior, BMW 5 series had the exact same transmission from the same vendor (neither not in house built) until they went to the 8 speed on the Hyundai.
For your photophobia, I suggest one, you test drive the car at night , but since you now bought it, your local window tinter to put on a very low shade over the displays, it will save it from any scratches, and make it more acceptable, for you can surely increase the brightness, since your complaints were at the "lowest level possible".

It had to be value, over comparable cars, and I don't think you priced out BMW, Audi, Lexus, or MB, for your way off with thinking you are not getting all the options (if you have a tech and performance package on the Genesis) for only $30K more.
Go drive and price those cars out, I think you will be more happy with what you have.
You got a lot of car for the money, and options that are not even available to you at the price differences you throw out.
But even if the car did compare to something at your lowest number, that cost $10,000 more, would that not be an accomplishment?
Or, would you just spend the $10,000 more for an equal car?
No car is perfect, but give me something that cost $20,000 or $30,000 more and tell us why it is a better car?

How about just getting two his and hers Genesis 3.8 for this price, you know your dealer would give you two 3.8's for 68K.
Would you not call that an pretty "equal value" to a smaller car with a smaller engine and performance?
BMW has had the press since the 1980's, and his hard to give it up, but when Hyundai will give you what they do now, then you can even get a 10 year bumper to bumper extended warranty for $1800 bucks, damn, that is a value.
BMW will drive you into the poor house with repairs after that 50K or 4 years,
I had a 3 series that has put off retirement for couple years for "out of warranty repairs".
Yes, I loved driving it, a nice rag top, but people are way too stuck on the badges and so called cache factor.
It is slowly going away, first Infinity, Lexus and Acura, now Hyundai.
Yes, they should have had another badge for premium cars for the U.S. market, but the reviews have spoke for them, no need to now.
