With Hyundai, it has always been about the price, and so it goes with the Genesis twins. The 2.0T is the low man on Hyundai's Genesis Coupe totem pole, disappointing the power addled and whooping it up too much for pinkie-waving tea drinkers. The syrupy $33,000 sedan upon which the coupe is based dives for Lexus’s knees. The four-seat coupe also aims below the waist at competitors, with a 210-hp, 2.0-liter ... Read More

Well, our 2010 Bathurst Black Genesis Coupe delivered in September 2009 with water spots everywhere and scratches all over the hood still makes me sick when I wash it...after fighting with the dealer for a year (after they detailed and 'clayed' the car 3 times!), I finally gave in and let their body shop touch up and re-clear the hood last October or so. Isn't Hyundai supposed to be offering a superior alternative in the Genesis to those FWD barges rather than playing with them? A lot of people buy those FWD barges. What's wrong with Hyundai trying to grab some of those buyers? And if they want something different from a FWD barge, there's the Genesis. Any luxury car these days can be had at a nice discount. In fact, in 2010 the biggest ... Read More
Some MBs from not long ago look like cars from a 3rd world country also. Is the Genesis a "luxury" car? Mixed opinions on that. Some see it competing with other V6 and V8 RWD luxury cars and thus put the Genesis into the luxury category. It’s funny you should post this question, as we just went through this same problem at a dealer in San Jose 10 days ago. It is true the Hyundai leases only extend to 15K miles. Well, I noticed that Car driver really has emphasized the Lexus-like demeanor of the car on it's long term road test V8 Genesis, then selected the Genesis 3.8 over other "upscale" but not luxury cars in a comparo against the Lexus ES350, Buick LaCrosse, and some other car, maybe the SHO, but termed that NONE of the cars were "fun" to drive. I noticed here in South Florida that the local Hyundai dealership is now promoting the Genesis in high end maginzines that before BMW, MB, LEXUS, AUDI an JAGUAR were the only automobiles featured. Tides a changing!!
it is an interesting note that CR in its most recent comparo did include the Gen V8 in a 'luxury' class that in this case included the G37 and 535. They seemed to think the V8 was largely a waste of the extra money, and spent more than a few sentences on the ride problems. It seems they avoid the whole lux perception issue by simply qualifying luxury cars as something ... Read More

fitzmall.com is selling base 2011 (not 2010) Genesis V6 Sedan at $27.5K! Are they simply not selling well or is there any Toyota-like recall issue going on? According to Edmunds, Hyundai is not offering any sort of consumer incentive on the Genesis. Fitzmall is known for rock bottom pricing so perhaps they have a dealer incentive with Hyundai.

It looks to me like (unlike the 2010 models) Nav is standard on at least all the "high-end" Genesis Coupes.
The suspension was modifed in the spring of 09. I have an early 09 and have driven quite a few different later ones (loaners). The only thing I notice is the newer models appear stiffer in the rear with less bounce. Other than that the same ride characteristics apply.
Another issue is the Genesis ride. It was the #1 complaint among Genesis owners. For some people it was too stiff or jarring. This automobile was design not to give you the floating type ride a Lexus gives. The suspension was modifed in the spring of 09. Make sure you are a passenger in the back and that you are OK with the comfort of the ride. I bought mine in ... Read More

Thanks Toye--that is helpful!
Alexk4 The best testament of the Genesis can found under the blog 2009 Genesis. The blogger Colegar has now put in over 64k on his Genesis V-6 Tech. He puts on a review every 10K 0f mileage. The person had a couple of issues early on but he explains in detail how it was resolved. Check it out :)
Toye, Thanks for the info. That seems like the biggest complaint is the tires. Snow tires are a good idea since I'm in Jersey and last year we did get a fair amount of snow. Regards, Alexk4

By your reasoning, Avalon should outsell Genesis by at LEAST 2:1--and actually a lot more than that, given Toyota has twice as many dealerships. But it doesn't. Sales are pretty even in 2010. Why is that?
You are living in the past again. Hyundais HAD poor resale values. But this is 2010, and that has changed. Check out resale values of the latest generation Hyundais and you'll see they are very competitive, even close to class-leading in some cases (e.g. Genesis and Sonata). "Big boys" in size, yes, but since when does domination of a market, as you have asserted, have to do with the size of the cars? It seems H did think the suspension needed "correcting", and it apparently did so. Didn't it? Hyundai obviously thought that there were enough owner complaints to warrant a change in the suspension tuning for 2010. Very responsive of them. They didn't wait until, e.g., 2 million cars to be recalled, or four years, to make a change. I am thinking maybe Hyundai's got it all wrong in their approach to the ... Read More
Before the Genesis was sold in the US the insiders reported that the Genesis was supposed to have adaptive curse control. When they announced the specs that feature was not part of any package. The reason for it was that Hyundai was not satisfied with the product and that they needed more time and research to fine tune the feature. Once they were satisfied they announced it in the 2010 model ... Read More
There has been ample discussion in more than one venue about Genesis suspension issues, which translate directly into uneven handling. That is based on, what? Your experience behind the wheel of the 2009 Genesis? When I read the comments about the 2009 Genesis and "unsettled" ride, I don't see them mention "uneven handling". Really the focus of those comments was on the ride not being as buttoned-down as some owners would ... Read More
If the E Class' old suspension design were sufficient, there would be no need for any changes/improvements for 2010. Hyundai improves the Genesis - that's a sign of weakness in your eyes. They should have gotten every detail of their first luxury sedan sold in the US perfect right from the start, and no changes should ever be needed. In fact, the longer Hyundai waits to make improvements (like 8 years ... Read More
If H didn't get the Genesis right from the start, ... Are you saying, it is a bad idea for a car company to make improvements to a car's design? Did MB make any improvements to the new E Class compared to the previous generation? Let's see... The newly developed DIRECT CONTROL suspension with standard-fit amplitude-dependent damping system is one of the major factors behind the high degree of long-distance comfort ... Read More
I have read the Genesis sedan owner reports. Not long ago I went through all 130 or so that were posted for the 2009 model at that time. (Of course, 2010 is on the right now.) I found only a handful mentioned issues with the suspension/ride, and none with the handling. That is why I asked what "handling" (direct quote from you) issues you knew about. Edit: I just looked at ... Read More
"Seeing as the Genesis had some handling issues, I sincerely doubt the Equus will be able to get ahead of the more expensive competition on the road...not exactly designed by people who like driving." What handling issues? While not a sports sedan like the 5 Series, most reviewers are impressed by the Genesis' ability to turn corners w/ little body roll (many have compared the handling to that of the E ... Read More
No, it was "nearly 60 years." I can't wait until you post your impressions of the Equus, when you see it up close. I'm sure there will be no opinions offered, just cold, hard facts about the car. You probably won't even mention how much you hate the hood ornament because that would be an opinion, and hyperbole at that. I really do think that a hood ornament like the one ... Read More
funny you should mention that because I got a 2010 Maxima SV and I did crossed shop the Genesis when I was comparing last summer! the Genesis and now the new Hyundai has really put them on the map as really competitive and a big name brand to compare when shopping now! its good for Hyundai!
The question should be "would I buy this Hyundai for $35,000" and not would I buy a "luxury" Hyundai. I have been car shopping for weeks and keep coming back to the Genesis. I've test driven them all. I'd like to spend around $35,000. I really went in to this with an open mind. I have been driving minivans for 14 years and have been looking forward to my first "not ...
