Yes, I've had it randomly die on me, (dealer was stumped, Hyundai corporate said to clean and re-torque all grounds) hasn't done it since. Various interior trim pieces needed to be replaced (b-pillars tore, sunvisor light died) the power tilt/telescopic wheel problems (still not fixed, has a mind of its own) power passenger seat spit out parts from underneath The engine makes some really nasty noises on startup (dealer claims normal). ... it is an interesting note that CR in its most recent comparo did include the Gen V8 in a 'luxury' class that in this case included the G37 and 535. They seemed to think the V8 was largely a waste of the extra money, and spent more than a few sentences on the ride problems. fitzmall.com is selling base 2011 (not 2010) Genesis V6 Sedan at $27.5K! Are they simply not selling well or is there any Toyota-like recall issue going on? According to Edmunds, Hyundai is not offering any sort of consumer incentive on the Genesis. Fitzmall is known for rock bottom pricing so perhaps they have a dealer incentive with Hyundai.

The suspension was modifed in the spring of 09. I have an early 09 and have driven quite a few different later ones (loaners). The only thing I notice is the newer models appear stiffer in the rear with less bounce. Other than that the same ride characteristics apply.

Another issue is the Genesis ride. It was the #1 complaint among Genesis owners. For some people it was too stiff or jarring. This automobile was design not to give you the floating type ride a Lexus gives. The suspension was modifed in the spring of 09. Just a note remember the premium and tech are different packages On the tech you get the bigger screen, 17 speaker Lexicon and no touch screen all controlled by the knob. The DVD's and surround system is just incredible pop a DVD in a test car and WOW On the premium you get the smaller screen and 14 speaker all controlled by touch screen. still very nice!!!!!! Have a 2011 3.8 model with premium and premium nav. packages. Previous car was a Hyundai Azera. The Genesis is the best value for money in the upscale sedan class, bar none. Same is true of the Azera in its' class. Hyundai builds great cars with great warranties at a great price.

Alexk4 The best testament of the Genesis can found under the blog 2009 Genesis. The blogger Colegar has now put in over 64k on his Genesis V-6 Tech. He puts on a review every 10K 0f mileage. The person had a couple of issues early on but he explains in detail how it was resolved. Check it out :)

I've had fantastic luck with my Genesis...of course no automobile is perfect and some owners will have issues. I have had no problems with my Tech package except the rear view camera was replaced at 26. This car doesn't float like Lexus and Avalon so if that is important.... you won't care for the Genesis ride. Tires again I replaced all 4 performance tires at 23K You may want to check ... Read More

The dealer didn't say much other than "they all do it" and apparently they do. Mine and two others I have driven do it. On another forum there are several as well. Its probably no big deal, but its just odd. As for the tires, they wear quickly and are terrible (yes, TERRIBLE) in snowy conditions. On dry/wet pavement they are actually pretty grippy. My incity MPG is more like 16-17 with very frequent stop and go. Highway MPG is 27-30. If you dont live in a hilly area then your MPG should be easily more than what the EPA estimates. Check out resale values of the latest generation Hyundais and you'll see they are very competitive, even close to class-leading in some cases (e.g. Genesis and Sonata). I agree that the buyer sounds rational and knowledgeable about cars in general. I thought it particularly interesting that the final 2 choices came down to the Avalon and Genesis (a comparison not inrequently made here), and, a 2010 Genesis at that (with a revised suspension).

I compare the ride on my Genesis to a previous VW Phaeton, and that comparison may be unfair, but I also compare the ride to a currently owned 2006 Passat, and the Passat has a BETTER marriage of compliance and cornering than the Genesis. This forum began in Ocbober of 2008 listing quite a few fairly significant defects and flaws in the 2009 Genesis. In other forums I have also noticed numerous issues from the notorious early suspension problems to mostly electronic flaws with the radio amplifiers, steering wheel tilt resetting, and a zillion TSBs covering different issues. It seems H did think the suspension needed "correcting", and it apparently did so. Didn't it? Hyundai obviously thought that there were enough owner complaints to warrant a change in the suspension tuning for 2010. Very responsive of them. Before the Genesis was sold in the US the insiders reported that the Genesis was supposed to have adaptive curse control. When they announced the specs that feature was not part of any package. The reason for it was that Hyundai was not satisfied with the product and that they needed more time and research to fine tune the feature.
