After doing research I drove a few cars which I will not name to save them embarrassment and settled on the Hyundai GLS (Desert Bronze w/Preferred Package) without reservation.
I've had the car for one month and 1000 miles. It continues to impress me as well as turn heads.
Many people have asked me what kind of car I'm driving or they're surprised it's a Hyundai. The car has a quiet interior, rides comfortably and drives great in the horrible Honolulu traffic, a definite plus! Surprisingly I am averaging 32 all purpose miles per gallon, even with the A/C on.
I am thoroughly pleased with the car and everything it offers.
The other compact cars in this class need to be worried!
Great looks inside and out
Awesome plush interior w/preferred package
Very respectable mileage, even in traffic
Unmatched warranty that eases piece of mind
Just a GREAT car
Get rid of the base model with no options and have your GLS w/Preferred package as your entry level car.
It would definitely blow away the competition and put them to shame
Be nice to the competition
2012 Hyundai Elantra GLS PZEV 4dr Sedan (1.8L 4cyl 6A)
3/21/12, I totaled my 2008 Elantra.
Seatbelts and airbags saved me life.
Seats were comfortable.
Drove nice and smooth.
Excellent Airbags when they deploy and seat belt kept me strapped into my seat for 35 minutes until they cut my roof off to get me out of the car.
I can't drive for 4 wks but soon as I can I'm going to purchase another Elantra.
I was very excited to drive off in my new Elantra 2012 with only 8 miles on the engine.
The joy went away as an engine light went on the day after purchase.
Took the car back to the dealer only to have them say all is good.
The engine ran rough and would almost stall at times.
The car has been at the dealer for over a week and I was told that they don't know what the problem is and the engineer from Hyundia will need to determine the problem.
Needless to say I am not pleased with my first Elantra.
To think I decided not to buy another Toyota due to all the great reviews.
I love the looks and power the engine has considering the great MPG.
The interior styling is nice to look at and looks like solid car inside.
Make sure the car runs well before the dealer puts it out on the lot for sale.
I compared all the cars in this class before deciding on the Elantra, including the Corolla, Civic, Mazda 3. The Elantra offered so much more for the money! While I wouldn't call it sporty by any means, it has a great ride and is responsive enough for me. I read a lot of people complaining about the "poor gas mileage" and can't figure that out. I am averaging about 32mpg with mainly city driving. On one 100mile highway trip, we got 39.2 mpg. Nothing to complain about!! Not sure how these people drive, but I am definitely not a "granny" behind the wheel.
I am pleased so far
Nice ride, tons of amenities for the money, great on gas, and has a sharp look to it. It's also pretty quiet inside. I am 6'0' tall and have tons of leg and headroom, as did my 6'5 300lb friend
